Swedish Midsummer Festival in Rockefeller Park
Rockefeller Park is the setting for a unique celebration of the summer solstice. Learn traditional Swedish folk dances and join in a lively dance around the midsummer pole.
Make wreaths from beautiful flowers representing those in bloom on the solstice in Sweden, then participate in a parade, children’s games, and Swedish delicacies.
Traditional music by Paul Dahlin and fiddlers from the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis. Dances led by Ross Sutter, a Scandinavian folklorist.
Plus, City Parks Foundation is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the world-renowned children’s story Pippi Longstocking by the legendary Swedish author Astrid Lindgren with a special puppetmobile puppet show. The production features nearly two dozen, hand-made marionettes crafted by the expert puppeteers.
