The School at Steps

The School at Steps cultivates dancers ages 18 months through 18 years from their first steps in a dance studio through their pre-professional training. The school offers academic and summer programs with classes in ballet, modern, tap, jazz, theater dance, hip hop, and pilates. Students are also given performance opportunities and workshops on dance and career-related topics.

The Young Dancers Program (ages 18 mo.-5 yrs) introduces creative movement exercises that foster body coordination and rhythmic awareness. Technique Classes (ages 6-18) strengthen technique and develop artistic skills. The Pre-Professional Program (ages 7-18) is a curriculum-based program designed for the most dedicated dance student. The personal attention the school provides encourages students to mature as dancers, grow as individuals, and enrich their passion for the art form. School at Steps graduates go on to dance with professional companies and study at top college dance programs.

92Y offers engaging classes for children and teens in art, music (including private lessons and vocal instruction), dance, theatre, and fitness, taught by world-class instructors. Musicians can join vocal, jazz, and orchestral ensembles. Gymnastics, swim, basketball, and other sports are coached in the modern, multi-level fitness facility. After school, 92Y offers school pick-ups and enrichment activities, available also for children and teens with special needs. Students in grades K-8 can be enrolled in the Monday afternoon ATiD program (ATiD means “future” in Hebrew), a dynamic approach to Jewish learning after school, offering Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation and more. Ailey Extension offers weekly Sunday classes that foster self-esteem, physical strength, and creativity. Classes include Tiny Steps for 2-year-olds and parents, Hip Hop 4 Kids (ages 7-11), and Teen Extension (ages 12-17). Teen Extension includes Contemporary Jazz, Ballet, and Hip-Hop classes at various levels. No placement audition or prior experience is necessary.
