Sheep, Shawls & Cheese - Oh My!
Explore the process of turning wool into cloth and fiber arts with a demonstration of spinning and weaving, visit with sheep from the Soule Homestead Education Center in Middleborough, and try a hand at spinning, weaving, sampler-making and other crafts.
The textile demonstrations will feature several spinners, including eighteenth-century reenactor, spinner and weaver Penny Lacroix of Westford, who offers workshops and presentations around New England. Joining them will be weavers from the Weavers’ Guild of Boston. Kids can enjoy crafts with the Plymouth County 4H-Weir Club and can try their hand at creating a sampler at the Art Complex Museum located next to Alden House.
Seventeenth century cheesemaking is also featured with an ongoing demonstration at the Alden hearth by Plimoth Plantation museum educator Kathy Rudder from 1 to 3 pm.
Tours of Alden House will be offered. Admission for tours is $8 for adults; $5 for kids and students; members are free.
