New Drop-in Kids' Art Classes at WeeCreateBK in Bed-Stuy
When it comes to NYC kids being creative, Brooklyn is filled with awesome art-making spots. But we're always on the lookout for new ones, especially drop-in programs where families can pop by when inspiration or ennui strikes. While the WeeCreateBK art studio opened in Bed-Stuy about a year ago, I was excited to find out that it's launching brand-new weekday drop-in sessions come April 1, when kids can mess around with art supplies with guidance from WeeCreateBK's founders: a professional artist and a teacher.
OUR LATEST VIDEOS
Opened by Stuyvesant Heights Montessori preschool teacher Shana Jackson and artist Jessica Ayala, WeeCreateBK is a bright little storefront that the owners hope to eventually transform into a full-time arts preschool. In the meantime, they're offering art classes for kids including Paint and Play and Art Around the World for children ages 2 to 6 ($90 for a monthly pass), and a new sewing class for teens and adults ($80 per session, plus a $25 materials fee). Camp programs for spring and summer break are also available.
WeeCreateBK hopes to appeal to all young kids, even ones who don't think of themselves as artistic or just want to experiment with different kinds of art supplies. To that end, beginning Monday, April 1, the studio will become a drop-in play space on weekdays, where families with children ages 18 months to 6 years can drop in to make art, read books and enjoy educational toys. Hours are Monday through Friday 10am to 2:30pm, and the cost is $15 per day or $70 for a weekly pass. WeeCreateBK would be cute in any neighborhood, but it's a particularly great addition to the Bed-Stuy area and not too far from another recently opened tot spot, the Pipsqueak Children's Shoppe, which sells eco-friendly gear, clothes and toys, and hosts childbirth and infant workshops.
WeeCreateBK is located at 182 Ralph Avenue between Macon and MacDonough Streets.
