Fred Flare: Unique Gifts and Toy Store for Kids in Brooklyn

2/2/10 - By Leni

Hamburger phones, Bacon Chocolate, Fish Eye Cameras, and all things cool. That is what’s on the menu at this kitchy boutique in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Started by two Chicago natives with a flare (literally) for unusual products and a love of Fred Astaire, Fred Flare is worth the trip for whenever you are stumped for a gift for kids or grown-ups alike. You are sure to find something unique and fun here.

Like a less perverted Urban Outfitters with a little bit of Brooklyn charm, Fred Flare is a small store front just off the main drag of Greenpoint’s Manhattan Ave. Cool toys that hipsters will enjoy for their kitschy irony, little kids will just get a giggle out of. And there aren't many stores to take your tween or teen shopping for hip accessories that neither offend nor break the bank. No penis pasta here, only good clean kid friendly fun.

Our current favorite picks from Fred Flare are the Plush Heart ($18) , Decorated Ipod Ear Buds with rubber duckies on them ($15), and the Pac Man Plug and Play Video Game Kit ($40). Also be sure to check out their website for more super cool and kid friendly stuff.
