Weekend Fun for LI Kids: Great Jack o' Lantern Sail, Haunted Hatchery, Country Fair, October 24-25

Whether you want to be shaking in your boots or pleasantly entertained, there's a spooky(ish) walk that's just right for your family in Albertson (both spooky and not so spooky), Rockville Centre, Smithtown and Westbury.

Rise of the Jack o' Lanterns - Old Westbury. More than 5,000 hand-carved jack o’lanterns created by professional artists and sculptors are arranged in artful displays throughout a scenic trail within Old Westbury Gardens.

Enchanted Forest Trail - Quogue. Follow your guide to meet whimsical, fun and educational characters on the forest trails. The parking lot will be full of games and activities; dress up if you like.

Rock Hall Country Fair - Lawrence. Featuring a harvest market, crafts, farm animals, food, craft area, pumpkin patch, colonial historians, pony rides and make your own scarecrows. Free.

Spooky Fest - Rockville Centre. At the Center for Science Teaching and Learning, seven nights of Spooky Fest. Take a walk through the haunted woods for a real scare, or try the not-so-spooky walk (great for the younger ones).

Oktoberfest - Riverhead. At Garden of Eve Farm, this fair will feature Long Island Craft Beer, pumpkin picking, farm tours, vendors, hay rides, pony rides, kiddie activities and more.

Villains United - East Islip. All your favorite story book villains are there and they must band together and save Halloween before it's gone forever.

Gorgeous Gobstoppers - Port Jefferson. At the The Maritime Explorium, deconstruct candy to reveal the marvels of science, technology, engineering, art and math.

Jungle Book - Smithtown. At Smithtown Performing Arts Center, this is a live performance.

Alice's Wonderland Adventures - Port Jefferson. At Theatre Three, this is a live performance.

James and the Giant Peach - Northport. At the Engeman Theater, this is a live performance.

Fall Festival/Otto the Ghost - Old Westbury. At Hicks, take a picture with Otto the Ghost, enjoy a hayride down a decorated trail and visit with the farm animals. And while you’re here enjoy fresh picked apples, fudge, roasted corn, popcorn and more.

Kaufold's Fall Festival - Ridge. Pumpkin picking, mazes, activities and more.

Annabelle Broom The Unhappy Witch - Elmont. At BroadHollow Theatre, Casper the friendly you-know-what has nothing on this non-conformist witch who'd rather be chic than "shock." Annabelle Broom, The Unhappy Witch is an enchanting children's musical about a young witch whose love of fashion keeps her in hot water with her elders.

Nassau Barkfest - East Meadow. At Eisenhower Park, there will be a costume contest and parade for pets. All pets must be leashed. Free.

Halloween FestivalRockville Centre. At Molloy's Madison Theater, there's face painting, balloon twisting, coloring, bouncy houses, a costume parade and so much more. 

Great Jack o' Lantern Sail - North Babylon. Festivities begin at 4pm; the Jack-o-Lanterns will set sail at approximately 6pm. Participation in the Jack O'Lantern Spectacular Sail is limited to the first 50 carved pumpkins. The event will feature a kid-friendly spooky house, balloon twisting, arts and crafts, trick or treating, Frankenstein on stilts, games and more. Free.

Lexibean 5K Family Run/Walk - East Meadow. At Eisenhower Park, the 5K Run/Walk begins at 8:30am, 1/2 mile Kids Fun Run at 9:30am.

Art Class - Merrick. Pint Sized Picasso's opens their doors for pay-by-the-day art classes.

Trunk or Treat - Massapequa. In the PAL parking lot, crafts, bounce house, face painting, stilt walkers, popcorn, carnival games and more.

Halloween Parade - Bellmore. In the village, kids can dress up in costumes and trick or treat down Bedford Avenue. Free.

Halloween Party - Port Washington. It's the Annual Parent Resource Center Halloween Party featuring music, petting zoo and crafts. Perfect for families with young kids under 6.

Halloween Extravaganza - Port Jefferson. At Theatre Three, kids can enjoy a costume parade, trick or treating, face painting, games, crafts, snacks and goodie bags.

Haunted Hatchery - Cold Spring Harbor. At the Fish Hatchery, featuring flashlight sightings of black catfish that swim in the inky outdoor ponds, and pumpkin seed sunfish that live in the aquarium tanks. Refreshments are served. Kids in costumes receive an extra treat.

Ghostly Gala - Garden City. At the Long Island Children's Museum, there will be a costume party, face painting, crafts and a puppet show.

Spooky Walk - Albertson. Clark Botanic Garden will be haunted by terrifying creatures that will have you shaking in your boots. Suggested for older kids.

Halloween Spooktacular - Smithtown. At the Sweetbriar Nature Center, join all of the ghoulies, ghosties and other Halloween creepies for an evening of fun and excitement. Special outdoor trails have been created for different age groups.

Sunday, October 25

Spoons and Tunes - Long Beach. Music for Aardvarks will help with this program.

Sunday Seatuck Family Nature Club - Islip. These programs will be geared around the current season and include topics, such as seasonal birds, tremendous trees and signs of the season.

Halloween Spooktacular Party - Bellmore. At Le Play Cafe, tattoos, Halloween story and craft, cupcakes and music. Reservations required. Dress in costumes.

Spoons and Tunes - Long Beach. Music for Aardvarks will help with this program through Spoons and Tunes - eats and beats.

Not So Spooky Walk - Albertson. At Clark Botanic Garden, this offers a little less pulse-pounding horror, come on the last day of the weekend for a family-friendly Halloween themed walk.

Harvest Festival - Port Jefferson. In the heart of the village, enjoy a haunted building walking tour, scare crow alley and music performances. Join a marshmallow roast, costume dog parade at 2pm, wood carving demo, wine tasting, chowder crawl (registration fee) etc.

Whaling Boo-Seum - Cold Spring Harbor. At The Whaling Museum, live creatures, exhibits, owl pellet dissections, spooky craft stations, fizzy potion station, sticky slime brewing, games and prizes
