With the 4th of July landing mid-week, the fun kicks off this weekend and continues through the following Saturday. We’ve compiled a long list of family celebrations in Westchester and the Hudson Valley that feature firework displays on various days of the week, so you can celebrate the holiday with a real bang!

Among these is the Highland Falls 4th of July Festivities, which spans five days beginning Saturday; the weekend’s highlight is canoe races on Sunday, and the other main attractions continue Monday through Wednesday. For other seasonal thrills, hit the rides and games at the annual Fireman's Carnival, which also runs a full week

Sometimes kids need to get really messy (just not in your house!), and International Mud Day piles on the muck with buckets of icky fun. Though the Ice Cream Social is inspired by the dessert’s historical roots in America, there shouldn't be much arm-twisting needed to attend (especially since ice cream isn't the only attraction). The Family Fun Festival, also held at a historic site, offers good, clean fun, in the form of circus performances, raptors, first responders, face painting, and more—all FREE.
