Mexican Day of the Dead
Experience El Día de los Muertos, the festive Mexican tradition in which passed loved ones are remembered with joy and celebration. Renowned artist Zafiro Romero-Acevedo returns to the Pelham Art Center to share the history of one of Mexico’s richest traditions through performance and demonstration.
On Día de los Muertos, the dead are also a part of the community, being invited to share celebrations with their loved ones. Families create ofrendas (offerings) to honor their departed family members. These altars are decorated with bright yellow marigold flowers, photos of the departed, and the favorite foods and drinks of the one being honored. The offerings are believed to encourage visits from the land of the dead as the departed souls hear their prayers, smell their foods and join in the celebrations.
Bring an offering or photo that you’d like to be included in Pelham Art Center’s window display for Day of the Dead.
This is an outdoor event. Feel free to wear costumes.
