Celebrate the start of 2024 with a ranger-led First Day Hike in Mason Neck State Park, which is offering hikes for all ages and skill levels.

Hikes begin at the following times throughout the day on January 1: 

  • 9:30am: Kane's Creek to Eagle Spur trail, a roughly 3.8-mile hike on packed dirt with stairs. Not wheelchair- or stroller- friendly.
     
  • 11:30am: Tundra Swan Hike at the Woodmarsh Trail at Elizabeth Hartwell Refuge.  Approximately 2.5-mile loop. Not wheelchair-friendly. Recommended for ages 8 and up. Limited space available for this hike only. Registration is REQUIRED for this hike only.
     
  • 12pm: Dogue Trail hike and roll, a 1-mile packed dirt trail that is wheelchair-accessible.
     
  • ​3pm: Family-friendly hike on Bay View Trail that is approximately 1.25 miles, with stops and hands-on opportunities for adventure and exploration.
