Early readers and their grown-up companions are invited to a new book club highlighting big ideas about ourselves and others. Each month, participants are encouraged to read a select picture book at home and then join Portrait Gallery educators to discuss the story.  

• June 27 – “A Portrait in Poems: The Storied Life of Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas”  by Evie Robillard (Author), Rachel Katstaller (Illustrator)  
• July 11 – “Shining Star: The Anna May Wong Story” by Paula Yoo (Author), Lin Wang (Illustrator)  
• July 25 – “Nina: A Story of Nina Simone” by Traci N. Todd (Author), Christian Robinson (Illustrator)  
• August 22 – “Jimmy’s Rhythm & Blues: The Extraordinary Life of James Baldwin” by Michelle Meadows (Author), Jamiel Law (Illustrator)  

Visitors will look at portraits in one of the special exhibitions and create fun takeaways for continued conversations at home. This program is ideal for elementary school-aged children and their families.
