My family and I went apple picking a couple of weeks ago, and we enjoyed homemade apple sauce and baking together a scrumptious cobbler (apple pie cupcakes are next on our list). But fall is also synonymous with pumpkin-flavored deliciousness, and this might be the perfect weekend to hit one of the local pumpkin patches and become a culinary scientist: try a new pie or soup recipe. Since most children are enjoying a day off from school on Monday, there's no excuse not to venture outdoors and enjoy the crisp air and increasingly colorful foliage, whether on a farm or closer to town. From a horn-filled parade to a celebration of the arts (pictured), our picks offer all the makings of a fun-filled long weekend.
