Equal parts bustle and beauty, December can be pretty and painful at the same time. Our job at Mommy Poppins is to help keep you abreast of all of the fun things happening all across Long Island -- not just this week-- but every week. It's particularly important to keep your little ones occupied during the final month of the year and not lose focus during the holiday season.
Thanksgiving week us upon us! With so many people off from work (or taking a vacation day) on Friday to recover from their post-turkey hangover (or to shop!), we've lined up some great Long Island activities that you will not want your kids to miss. From a plethora of Turkey Trots on Thanksgiving Day to a holiday classic coming to life on stage, there's never been a better time to get out and explore Nassau and Suffolk county. And with the cranberry concoctions out of the way, it's officially time to move on to the winter holidays. Whether you are looking to chop down your own Christmas tree or enjoy some ho-ho hotcakes with the Big Guy in the Red Suit, get planning now, Christmas and Hannukah will be here before you know it.
The pre-holiday weeks between Election Day and Thanksgiving can feel awfully quiet. But that doesn't have to be a bad thing. It's a great time to get out with the little ones before the parking lot madness begins.
With Election Day on Tuesday and Veterans Day on Friday, parents get two additional days to create memories. Of course, that also means two more days many of us will struggle to fill the time with activities that are fun and educational.
After all of the hype, what is arguably the best day of the year for children of all ages is upon us: Halloween. The creeps hit a crescendo this Monday with a bevy of holiday events.
It's the week before Halloween, your last chance to paint pumpkins, craft costumes, and take in some scary science. Before the ghouls and goblins retreat for the year, be sure to get your little gremlins engaged with these awesome weekday events on Long Island. And don't forget -- our Long Island Halloween Guide is here to keep you and the family busy all week (and weekend!) long.
Nestled within the Cradle of Aviation is one of my favorite interactive open play areas: The Junior Jet Club.
At only $2.50 per child (free with museum admission), it is one of the most inexpensive (and fun!) ways to spend a few hours with children under 6 years old.
The Junior Jet Club is located within an expansive facility that also houses a planetarium and museum. Upon entrance, children will be in awe of the U.S. Navy Fighter Jet that hangs from the rafters. They will also want to run circles around the lobby exhibit.
