Peter Wentz Farmstead hosts an opportunity for visitors to learn about the days just before the start of Lent for Pennsylvania Germans. They often celebrated Fastnacht Day by using indulgent ingredients such as butter, sugar, eggs, and potatoes to produce Fastnachts, or fried potato doughnuts.

Guests can watch hearth cook Deborah Peterson make these and other pre-Lenten treats in the Summer Kitchen. Samples are available to share. In addition, guests can expect demonstrations of typical winter activities such as preserving meat for long-term storage using the smokehouse, splitting wood for fires, and farm tours.
