Memorial Day Weekend Fun for Houston Kids, May 26-28

Memorial Day weekend is here, which means May is officially coming to a close, the school year is ending, and it is finally time to celebrate the start of summer! Since honoring our nation's fallen heroes is the primary focus of this weekend, we found some awesome family-friendly celebrations around the city to attend, such as the amazing annual Memorial Day Celebration in The Woodlands and the Memorial Day Pool Party at Evelyn Rubenstein JCC Aquatics Center. CityCentre is also putting on a weekend-long Summer Tribute Concert Series if you're in the market for some outdoor tunes and Discovery Green is hosting a FUNomenal Family Festival on Saturday. 25 Good-to-Know Tips for New Parents in New York City

Whether you moved here as a 20-something, or are a lifelong New Yorker, you might think you've got this city figured out. After all, you know the ins and outs of roommate searches, you can score theater tickets on the cheap, or find the nearest happy hour or trendy bite to eat with the blink of an eye, but once you become a parent, New York City a foreign land.

I've been in your shoes, going from a carefree young professional to a diaper-bag toting mom seemingly overnight. Really, it was nine months of staring down my "new" New York while fighting off morning sickness and simultaneously searching for birthing spotspediatricians, day cares, and baby gear. That was (ahem) 13 years and three kids ago...so I've picked up a few tricks and tools of the trade.

Here are 25 nuggets of NYC new parent advice. Find more baby and new parent hacks in our NYC Pregnancy and Baby Guide.

10 Stroller-friendly Hiking Trails for LA Parents To Hike with Toddlers

If a stroll to the neighborhood park is not enough to stretch your limbs, pack that stroller and head for a trail—preferably one that accommodates said stroller. Backpacking moms can enjoy our suggestions for traditional kid-friendly hikes; back-aching moms should read on to see ten suggestions for LA hikes with room for strollers to stride. We're sure there's one to please! (And for more suggestions, check out our family hiking guide!)

16 Super Sprinkler Parks on Long Island

When the temperature rises, there’s nothing like jumping through a sprinkler to cool off. Long Island sprinkler parks are great places to take kids because unlike pools and beaches, sprinkler parks have low water depth and often a rubber-like surface. Just add sunscreen and let the adventures begin.

We’ve put together a list of super sprinkler parks that are open to everyone. We've even included a few parks open to residents only. Proof of residency and/or a membership pass can be required at those facilities. Fees vary, so check the websites or call before going.

Looking for something a little more low-key? Then head to one of the many Houston-area breweries that boast awesome patios and play areas for the kids.

You also definitely want to check out our event calendar, which is filled with daily activities happening all around town. Planning ahead for the month? 5 Baby Gear Essentials for a Small One Bedroom Apartment

When I was pregnant the question I was asked most often—after "What are you having?"—was, "When are you going to move out of the city?" So many people, especially non-NYC dwellers, wanted to know where we planned to put all of the baby's stuff in our small, one bedroom Manhattan apartment. They were shocked to see the baby registry and find out that we planned to get by without so much of the "stuff" they told us we needed.

Best Amusement Parks for Preschoolers in and Near NYC

For young children, a ride on a carousel’s painted pony, a spin with dad around the bumper car track, and a dripping swirl of frozen custard are the stuff summer memories are made of. No need to seek out the latest scary high-tech roller coasters (which means you can cross Luna Park's most scary rides off your list).

Rides that look mild (or frankly, downright boring) to big people usually provide just the right amount of thrills for toddlers and preschoolers. Happily, there are a number of amusement and water parks in or near the New York City metro area that offer these kinds of tame attractions. Here's our roundup of theme parks perfect for the pint-sized.

Our Favorite Toddler Playgrounds in Brooklyn

It's no secret that Brooklyn is one of the most family-friendly boroughs in New York City. More young families are discovering the rich culture and kid-friendly perks like indoor play cafes that make it a great place to raise your family. It's the reason why these days, strollers outnumber the hipsters in most Brooklyn neighborhoods. And one of the best ways to enjoy the beautiful tree-lined blocks is to go for a walk with your tot in tow to visit some of the amazing playgrounds in the area.

We've already ranked the best playgrounds in Prospect Park and the top playgrounds for your big kids in Brooklyn, but now we're putting together a list of some of our favorite playgrounds sized for toddlers.

10 Great Stroller-Friendly Park Walks on Long Island

They might be too young for the playground, but Long Island babies (and their caregivers) can still enjoy our great parks.

Of course, not all parks are created equal, especially when it comes to taking your baby out for fresh air. Some parks are aesthetically beautiful, but the trails are rocky and covered in sand, making pushing a stroller nearly impossible. Others are smoothly paved, but have nothing for you and your little one to look at. From Nassau to Suffolk, here are our picks for Long Island walks with the best terrain and intriguing scenery—perfect for a day out with baby.

Check out these FREE attractions across Long Island for even more fun activities to do with your baby, or find more ways to meet new parents who, like yourself, might be eager to socialize.

If you are looking to cool off after your walk, why not visit a nearby spray park
