August GoList: Best Things to Do with Kids in Boston

August in Boston is free and festive! There are free summer festivals almost every weekend in August, plus lots more free fun throughout the month. We've also picked a few activities that require a visit to the piggie bank, but we think they're well worth checking out, especially if you have a young astronomer in the house or you're thinking about taking the kids camping for the first time.

We hope you'll be able to squeeze a few of these top picks for hometown fun between summer day trips and weekend getaways before the kids head back to school.

10 Summer Festivals for NYC Kids This August

Many families flee the city in August for end-of-summer vacations, but it's actually one of my favorite months to be in NYC. With summer staples like swimming, play fountains, Governors Island, and hundreds of free summer fun, there's plenty to do if you stick around. Plus, only-in-August favorites like Summer Streets and Arthur Ashe Kids' Day really pack in the fun. So we've rounded up 10 FREE family-friendly festivals happening throughout the Big Apple in August to help you get the most out of NYC with kids during the last month of summer.

The Best Local Ice Cream Shops in Westchester

Summer's in full swing! We hope you're surviving this heat wave and are having fun making your way around town, checking out all the great things to do in Westchester. While you're out and about, one must-have piece of knowledge is where to find some frozen goodness.

Sure you can hit up some of the big chains or ice cream trucks, but there's just something about a good old-fashioned neighborhood ice cream shop. We're lucky to have lots of great spots, so ride out the summer days and stay cool at one of Westchester's local shops.

August GoList: The Best Things To Do with NJ Kids This Month

It's hard to believe there's just one more month of summer left for family fun before school hits. Time to rev it up for August! We'll help you to find out the best stuff to do with your NJ kids this month; why not try a hot air balloon festival, a visit to a ghostly villagea Disney sing-along, or just choose one of the many August fairs and festivals that abound in our fair state over the summer. Whatever you choose, grab your kids and just GO!

Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark Opens Toddler Area, Mummy's Oasis

A popular Poconos resort's water park, Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark, opened a new toddler and preschooler outdoor attraction this summer, Mummy’s Oasis. It's a fun-themed kids zone for those 48 inches and under and definitely a great place to park your family to cool off. It's one of the reasons we added this Poconos attraction to our list of best water parks near NYC for toddlers.

We visited earlier this summer and have the scoop on the dumping buckets, mini water slides, and more. Check out the NYC Beaches, Pools and Water Parks Guide for more splashing fun or our roundup on 15 Awesome New Jersey Water Parks.

Weekend Fun for LA Kids: Dragon Boats, Dance Day, and Soda Tasting, July 30 - 31

I hear you knocking, August, but you can't come in. I am too busy with my Julyapalooza. I'm dancing like there's no tomorrow, drinking my fill of international soda, and riding my dragon boat into the sunset to watch the stars come out. What's that sound you hear? Only the moonlit Brian McKnight/ Michael Feinstein/ tributes to all my favorite artists concerts I'm listening to. What's that sight you see? Only the classic cars, Malibu art, spacefaring circus, and sciency science that are part of this so very July weekend.

Join me for a spot of Elf liberating tea? Or a nibble of kitty shaped cookies? Or a bacon Nutella pickle? Such a very middle of the summer way to snack!

You'll get your chance, August. With your back to school and your, I don't know, maybe colder weather or something? But for now, we are in the heart of summer, and it is glorious. And maybe a little hot.

Weekend Fun for Philly Kids: Car Show, Birthdays, Harry Potter July 30-31

For many Philly families, summer weekends are relaxed, unplanned, lazy, full of possibilities. So, if your calendar is open and you are searching for some excitement, look no further. Our events calendar is exploding with fun just in time for the weekend.

Nature lovers can start the weekend by waking up early to bird watch at Bucktoe Creek Perserve or Churchville Nature Center. Is your family ready to party? Celebrate at two local venues as both Sesame Place and Franklin Square recognize birthdays this weekend. Indulge in delicious foods including sweet corn, honey and BBQ at festivals throughout the area. Or check out the fast cars and Kids Zone at East Passyunk Avenue's Car Show and Street Festival.

If you have Harry Potter fans in the house, the most important thing about this weekend is the release of J.K. Rowling's latest book, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Many bookstores such as Big Blue Marble Bookstore, The Doylestown Bookshop, and Children's Book World are having events to mark the occasion.

Weekend Fun for CT Kids: Sunflowers, Fire Trucks, and Festivals, July 30-31

It’s the end of July! With days getting shorter and only about a month to go before most students return to school, it’s tempting to feel sorry for ourselves and denounce the fleeting summer season. But summer isn’t quite over. In fact, there’s still much to look forward to: vegetables and fruits abound, sunflowers are aglow, and plenty of days remain to explore the beach or venture to a nearby amusement park

This weekend, enjoy the sunshine while letting the kids navigate their way out of the train-themed Lyman Orchards Sunflower Maze, go stargazing at Trumbull Nature and Arts Center, or watch a free movie under the stars.
