Kids of all ages can learn about children’s celebrations in Japan during a weekend of activities hosted by the Chicago Botanic Garden, including koto harp and shakuhachi flute music, traditional folk tales, a tea ceremony, and hands-on activities!
Visitors are invited to participate in a tea tasting ceremony (while supplies last), or try their hand at the ancient Japanese art of suminagashi. There are also a number of crafting stations, including constructing a kimono-clad paper doll, creating a miniature carp kite, or designing a hanging scroll.

10:30 a.m. Urasenke Chicago Association: Tea Ceremony
11 a.m. – noon Traditional Tea Tasting
11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m.– 2:30 p.m. Pam Martinez: Suminigashi
