Weekday Fun: Drones, Swale, E.T., Hopalong Andrew

The Intrepid's Drones exhibit, the Philharmonic's E.T., Swale, and other events for NYC Kids,May 8–12

As far as events this spring, New York City families are becoming rain-date experts. Governors Island's first-ever Sunset Celebration was moved from May 5 to May 12 because of the weather, and Preschool Play in Wagner Park, which began May 1, is hoping for dry grass and clear skies for the rest of its season. Speaking of skies, the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum opens its new exhibit Drones: Is the Sky the Limit? this week. And speaking of water, the floating food forest known as Swale has finally nailed down its summer schedule.

Reminder: These might be your final days to make reservations for Mother's Day. See our guide to Mother's Day brunch spots in Manhattan and the Bronx, Queens or in Brooklyn, as well as our guide to 25 Things to Do for Mother's Day 2017 in New York City.

Monday, May 8
Preschool Play — Battery Park City

If you missed it, this perennial favorite of preschoolers and their parents began on May 1, when the weather wasn't yet behaving. Take advantage of (hopefully) warmer climes this week, when kids can sing, hear stories, or just dart around the Wagner Park grass and play with carefully selected toys and play equipment before going home to nap like royalty. And remember: Really warm weather = water fun! (Note: Preschool Play also takes place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.) FREE
