Wildman Steve Brill Foraging Tour of Central Park
Wildman Steve Brill leads a special, kid-focused, foraging tour of Central Park.
Thanks to its varied habitats and combination of native and introduced species, this world-famous park overflows with wild food in in early autumn. Thickets will still be lined with tart hawthorn berries, related to apples, but with their own flavor. American hackberries, another native fruit that tastes like the candy coating of M&M's, plus the common spicebush, with leaves that make a superb tea, and berries a little like allspice, can be used to season sweet and savory dishes. Gourmet wild mushrooms pop up in Central Park after it rains. On this tour, foraging fans hunt for gigantic chicken mushrooms, brittle russulas, and prized bolete mushrooms.
