Willoughby Jazz Fest: May 15
On the heels of New Orleans’ annual Jazz Fest, we’re bringing the celebration to Downtown Brooklyn with brass bands, a second line parade, and a 1920s hot jazz dance party - dress the part.
Schedule:
12:00PM Second Line
Beginning on Lawrence and Fulton Streets, continuing to Willoughby and Jay Street.
Join us for the launch of the Willoughby Walks series with a New Orleans-style second line parade! Brooklyn’s own Soul Tigers Marching Band starts the day, followed by a joyous pedicab parade, with renowned High & Mighty Brass Band leading the second line and starting the show.

12:15 - 1:45PM High & Mighty Brass Band
The Stage at Jay
There’s a reason that musical trailblazers like Galactic, Dr. John, Trombone Shorty, Rebirth Brass Band, and DJ Logic have chosen to collaborate with High and Mighty Brass Band. This dynamic krewe combines classic New Orleans Funk and R&B with more modern Afro-Beat and Hip Hop influences.

1:45 - 2:45PM Hot Hand Band
Moving throughout Willoughby Walks
Hot Hand Band continues the revelry with party and dance music, all on brass!

2:45 - 3:30PM Plezi Rara
Moving throughout Willoughby Walks
Rara is a form of festival music that formed in Haiti, used for street processions and played metal trumpets , made from recycled coffee cans. The band Plezi Rara takes to the Brooklyn streets.

3:30 - 4:30PM Drag Queen Story Hour
Willoughby at Bridge St.
Drag Queen Story Hour is just what it sounds like—drag queens reading stories, imagining a world where people can present as they wish and where dress up is real. DQSH captures the imagination and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models.

5:00-8:00PM Jazz Age Lawn Party
The Stage at Jay
“The biggest (not to mention the cleanest and most family-oriented) regular event in the ‘Retro Nouveau’” (WSJ) movement comes to Brooklyn! The Prohibition era-inspired gathering is a magical opportunity to travel back in time with live music by Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra. Be inspired and dress your 1920s best.

Willoughby Street Art: May 22
Highlighting the cultural Mecca that is Downtown Brooklyn, we’ll have breakdance performances, pop and locking classes, public art activations, DJs, an open mic, all ending in a dance party with all music spun on vinyl.
Entertainment:

12:00 - 1:00PM The Drumadics
The Stage at Jay

The Stage at Jay
