First Saturdays for Families: Word of Advice
Families draw inspiration from Lubaina Himid’s series of paintings titled Metal Handkerchiefs, in which the artist combines language from health and safety manuals with imagery that both reflects and unsettles. To echo Himid’s careful language, participants exchange words of advice with members of their family, choose images that support or complicate these recommendations, and collage materials to create new meanings.
New Museum First Saturdays for Families are free of charge. This program is designed and recommended for families with children between the ages of four and twelve years, and includes free New Museum admission for up to two adults per family. Children under eighteen are always admitted free.
No preregistration is required. Space is limited, and tickets are given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Your entire party must be present; tickets will not be given to partial parties.
