Governors Island Art Parade
The artists of Governors Island bid adieu to another inspiring season, and New Yorkers are invited to enjoy one last hurrah, culminating in a free luminary art parade, Flaming Creatures 3, an ode to the diverse flora and fauna of our gorgeous city.
A family-friendly day of costume making and community building, starts at 2:30pm. Curator and artist Sally Beauti Twin provides materials for lanterns, luminaries, and costumes - as well as pre-mades! And attendees can enjoy a thrilling performance by world-renowned interdisciplinary artist Jodie Lyn-Kee-Chow (3:30pm), as well as the larger than life inflatable art of Mookntaka and projections by Jarid Blue.
At 6:30pm, the parade officially kicks off from Liggett Hall Arch, led by top local musicians Jonno Lamont (Black Star Creations), Jesse Gelaznik, and more. Artists and non-artists alike are invited to participate in this joyful celebration of the 1160 observed local species, cleverly juxtaposed against views of the Statue of Liberty and twinkling city lights.
Please note that the Governors Island ferry at 10 South Street will run later than normal, on the half hour, for all participants.
