Kathak Dance & Hindi Urdu Language Camp
In this week-long camp, children will study movement, expression, music of kathak, and Hindi/Urdu language. This intertwining of classical dance and heritage language is designed to help children immerse themselves and deepen their connection with their native culture. No prior Hindi/Urdu or dance experience is necessary.
Ancient shlokas, poetry and song of the Bhakti movement and Moghul period, and the great stories of Indian mythology are all experienced and expressed in the culture through three distinct mediums - classical language, dance, and music.
This program offers a unique collaboration between Leela Academy and The Culture Tree to bring authentic cultural education to the South Asian diaspora. The rich artistic traditions of the Indian subcontinent are deeply interwoven through history with its linguistic and dance traditions. This program is designed to inspire children to become life-long learners of their heritage.
