New Jersey Weekend October 23&24: Halloween Countdown!

Just one more week until Halloween and the ghosts and goblins are already on the loose!  This weekend you can head to Sesame Place in PA for the Count's Halloween Spooktacular event, ride a haunted train at the Camden Children's Garden Goblins in the Garden Festival, see Halloween themed shows at the Raritan Valley Planetarium, enjoy some pumpkin festivals like the one at Liberty Hall Museum, or go on a not too scary night hike through Stony Brook Watershed Tenafly Nature Preserve.  The brave can even take a boat ride through a haunted swamp!

New Jersey Weekend Events October 16-17: Halloween Fun, FREE Truck-Touching, Swap Your Stuff, and They Might Be Giants!

Yes, it’s October and Halloween is always the star, but even if you’re not into fun frights, there’s still plenty to do in New Jersey this weekend. Six Flags is continuing their “Thrills by Day, Fright by Night” weekend parties and you can “Boo” at the Zoo with Scooby Doo, but you can also make your own scarecrow, get up close and personal with fire trucks and bulldozers, and see one of our absolute favorite kids’ groups, They Might Be Giants, in concert. Have fun!

Columbus Day Weekend in New Jersey: Fall Festivals, Go Green Fair, Beavers, & the NJ Devils

It looks like the long Columbus Day weekend will bring some sunny and classic fall weather so take advantage and get outside! Grab the bikes and go green at Maplewood’s Green Day Fair or learn all about a family of beavers who live at the Plainsboro Preserve in Cranbury. There are fall festivals galore this weekend so take your pick: farm-themed at VanThun Farms in Monmouth Junction, a historic Halloween at the Historic Village of Allaire in Farmingdale, or Native American-style at Rutgers Gardens in New Brunswick. On Columbus Day itself, kids can see a live animal show at Trailside Nature Center in Mountainside, spend the day at NJ Devils Kids Day with a special Silly Bandz giveaway, or go pumpkin picking or apple picking at a local farm.

Fall Culture Guide: 7 New Museum Exhibits for Kids in New York City

Adventure abounds in NYC museums this fall.  Lots of new exciting (and educational) exhibits will have families crash landing into Oz, patrolling the city with the NYPD, going nose to nose with a real woolly mammoth, learning all about the brain and even climbing up a tree.  Once your kids hear about these fun exhibits they will be begging for a museum visit.  Here is our round up of the must-sees that we think the kids will really dig.

Weekend Events in NJ October 2-3: Kidstock, Bedstock, a FREE Applefest and the Ultimate Block Party!

So similar and yet so different… NJ has two tea parties (American Girl and Grandma and Granddaughter) and two ‘stock' events this weekend, not to mention a fitness fair, a self-portrait painting workshop for kids and something marvy called The Ultimate Block Party, which just might make a trip into the Big Apple necessary. Good times, folks, good times…

NJ Weekend September 25th & 26th: Fall Harvest Festivals, the Pumpkin Junction, and Puptoberfest

Fall has arrived!  So put on your jackets and head out to a multitude of Fall festivals.  There are Asian-inspired Harvest Moon Celebrations at the Newark Museum, a Colonial Harvest Festival at Trailside Nature Center, Fall Family Day at the Stickley Museum, and the Pumpkin Junction will take you straight to a Fall-themed spectacular which includes a 10 acre corn maze.  This weekend you can also enjoy a Family Day Powwow at the Monclair Museum, the Wings and Wheels Expo at the Aviation Hall of Fame, and a Puptoberfest celebration with your favorite pooch.

Weekend events in NJ September 18-19! FREE Clown Shows, Back to School Bashes, Oktoberfest, and a Hairspray Party!

There’s a crazy amount of fun happening in Jersey this weekend, so much that we could only bring you the highlights. Lots of end of summer/back to school partying with Barista Kids and Duke Farms, a weekend of wackiness called Clownfest, and you can even shave your noggin bald for a good cause. The kids deserve some fun for surviving the first full week of school, so take them out to one of these events and have a blast!

NJ Weekend Events September 11-12: Festivals of Sheep, Oysters, Children's Books, Music, Kids & Family, and more

School may be back in session, but this weekend's calendar looks like summer to me!  Plenty of "fishy fun" is to be had seining fish at Sandy Hook's Annual Kids Day or chowing down on shellfish at Asbury Park's Oyster Festival.  Also this weekend is a wide variety of festivals including the Annual Sheep & Fiber Festival (no cows or horses at this one!), Union County's Music Fest with a fully-charged Kids Kingdom, Princeton Library's Children's Book Festival featuring over 50 children's authors and illustrators including R.L. Stein of the Goosebumps series, and Hoboken's First Annual Family Arts Fest with hours of music, kids theater and yoga workshops, and more.  Or head indoors for some Back-To-School entertainment like Disney Live! Mickey's Magic Show at the Prudential Center.

Sneak Peak: Turtle Back Zoo's New Aquarium Exhibit

There’s something new at the zoo! (Besides the new face painting and glitter tattoo artist, of course). The charming Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange has been around since 1963, but it’s always re-inventing itself. In late September (date to be determined) Turtle Back will open its newest exhibit, “Worlds of Water” aquarium. Here I'll share details with you about the aquarium that will definitely be on your must visit list.

NJ Weekend Events August 28-29: OMG Glam Tea Party, Rockit! Live, Yo Gabba Gabba! and FREE Back to School Healthy Goodies!

If you’re looking for some NJ-centric activities this weekend, rumor has it that Miss New Jersey and Miss Teen New Jersey 2010 are going to be at the OMG! Glam Tea Party. Beauty contestants and Glam tea? Can’t get much more Jersey than that. If this is just too girly for your almost-last weekend of summer, Rockit! Live will have plenty of teenaged boys playing electric guitars, and the St. Sebastian Feast statue will definitely be male. Or just go unisex and enjoy chocolate and vanilla treats at Camden Children’s Garden or haul bootie all the way down to Philly to see the immensely popular Yo Gabba Gabba Live. However you slice it, enjoy your last weekend of August!
