Weekend Fun: Peach Festivals, Hot Air Balloons, County Fairs
August is here, but don't panic—there's still plenty of summer left! Make the most of this weekend by checking out one of the many fairs and festivals happening across the state, including the New Jersey State Fair: Sussex County Farm & Horse Show, Terhune Orchards' Just Peachy Festival, and the Cape May Beer & Crab Festival. Take a break from the heat with Bank of America Free Museum Days or a performance of West Side Story; catch a free movie on the beach; or explore the forest on a guided nature walk.

New Jersey State Fair: Sussex County Farm & Horse Show – Augusta
Head to the Sussex County Fairgrounds for horse shows, live entertainment, carnival rides and games, exhibits, delicious food, and more. Loads of free entertainment includes a petting zoo, pig races, K-9s in Flight, a horse show, agricultural demonstrations, demolition derbies, tractor pulls, and a performing arts tent.
Just Peachy Festival – Princeton
Take the family to Terhune Orchards to enjoy summer-sweet New Jersey peaches. Sample the goods at the Summer Harvest Farm-to-Fork Tasting, take free canning and freezing lessons, and try all kinds of peachy treats that will be available for sale. There will also be tractor rides through the orchard, pony rides, face painting, and music.
Westside Story at BergenPAC – Englewood
More than 80 talented teens from across the region will take the stage in an updated performance of West Side Story. Tickets are available at the box office and for advance purchase.

Peach Harvest Festival – Chester
The peach fun continues at Alstede Farms, where there will be peach treats aplenty, including muffins, pies, crumb cake, and ice cream. There will also be lots of family-fun activities, too.
Bank of America Free Museum Days – Various locations
If the temperature outside is steamy, head to your favorite local museum. Present your Bank of America credit or debit card and a picture ID for one free general admission (visitors still have to pay for children’s admission). Check out the list of participating local locations.

Warren County Farmers' Fair and Hot-Air Balloon Festival – Phillipsburg
The 80th annual Warren County Farmers' Fair wraps up today. This event is filled with good old-fashioned fair fun like tractor pulls, animal exhibits, rides, live music, and tons of tasty food—plus hot-air balloons! A Kids' Corral offers free fun all day, including craft sessions and contests, from potato sack races to Jell-O-eating contests.
Cape May Beer & Crab Festival – Cape May
The Emlen Physick Estate is hosting this year’s Beer and Crab Festival, featuring local craft beers and a variety of crab dishes. There will also be jugglers, acrobats, and crafts for the kids. Admission is free.
Lighthouse Storytime – Cape May
No trip to Cape May is complete without a visit to the historic Cape May Lighthouse. Go for the storytime to hear nautical tales and enjoy the scenery. FREE
Movies on the Beach – Belmar
Bring your favorite beach blankets, chairs, and snacks to the 8th Avenue Beach just before sunset to watch Sing under the stars. FREE
Mad Science Summer Camp – Paramus
Give STEM-loving kids a fun outing at Garden State Plaza Mall, where Mad Science of Northeast NJ will host demos of entertaining science experiments with this week's theme: Sounds Like Science. Space is limited; RSVP online. FREE

Guided Nature Walk – Tenafly
Explore the forest in with an environmental educator at the Tenafly Nature Center. Kids ages 3 and up are welcome; no strollers.
Peach Pancake Breakfast – Chester
Alstede Farms invites you to an all-you-can-eat breakfast featuring its farm-fresh peaches and more. Admission to the breakfast includes access to the pick-your-own fields and orchards as well as live entertainment.
Zucchini-Palooza – Morris Township
The Frelinghuysen Arboretum is hosting a zucchini-themed afternoon of fun, including zucchini car races, squash-toss games, garden scavenger hunts, and more.
Somerset County Concert Series – Bridgewater
The Duprees are heading to Duke Island Park for an evening of fantastic music, plus a Food Truck Festival featuring delicious local fare. Come to hang out, have dinner, and relax. FREE
