Weekend Fun for NJ Kids: Chocolate Fest, Zoo Fun, Winter on the Farm

Black History Month kicks off with an exciting event in New Jersey this weekend: the grand re-opening of the Underground Railroad Museum of Burlington County. This weekend also offers opportunities to visit with creatures of the land and sea, with a Tots Program at Turtle Back Zoo and a Behind the Scenes Tour at Jenkinsons Aquarium.

Love is in the air with a couple of events heralding the arrival of Valentine's Day, including the Chocolate Festival at the Morris Museum in Morristown and a My Little Valentine craft workshop at the Crop Shop in Hoboken. Family Photo Scavenger Hunt – Morris Township
The winter weekend scavenger hunts at Frelinghuysen Arboretum continue this month—so grab your camera and head to Haggerty Education Center. Take a picture of every item on the list and win a prize.Themes and prizes change monthly.

Underground Railroad Museum of Burlington County Grand Opening –  Easthampton
Celebrate the opening of the Underground Railroad Museum of Burlington County in its new permanent home at Historic Smithville Park. The event will include a Black History Art Exhibit as well as live entertainment and tours of the museum. The collection includes art, photos, and artifacts that were used on plantations during slavery. 

Chocolate Festival – Morristown
February is the perfect month for a festival dedicated to chocolate. The Morris Museum's annual event will feature workshops, crafts, face painting, and a performance of Lollipops for Breakfast

Disney Reads Day at Barnes & Noble – Various locations
Head to your local Barnes & Noble for a morning of favorite Disney stories, along with activities and giveaways. FREE

Behind the Scenes Tour at Jenkinsons Aquarium – Point Pleasant
Come find out what goes on behind the scenes at Jenkinsons Aquarium in a top-to-bottom tour of the facility that's geared toward ages 5 and up. Wear your sneakers!

Turtle Back Zoo Tots Program – West Orange
Little ones ages 2-3 are invited to come to the zoo to learn about mammals, reptiles, insects, and birds in a program that includes stories, projects, and special animal visitors. 


See ice harvesting at Fosterfield's Living Historical Farm.

A Winter's Day on the Farm – Morris Township
Bundle up and head to Fosterfield's Living Historical Farm for a day that includes ice harvesting, maple sugaring, wagon rides, and visits with farm animals. Participants can warm up in a cozy farmhouse and make a craft to take home. 

My Little Valentine – Hoboken
The Crop Shop invites artists of all ages and abilities to make a special Valentine's Day craft. Make a heart-shaped mug, plate, or box.  

Passport to Art – New Brunswick
Kids and their parents are invited to work side by side on an art project inspired by one of the works on view at Rutgers University Zimmerli Museum. FREE
