Weekend Fun: Corn Mazes, Alpacas, Teddy Bear Parade

If you're knee-deep in back-to-school prep, never fear—we've got you covered with ways to unwind this weekend. You can meet the sweet residents of Bluebird Farm Alpacas, learn a new outdoor skill at New Jersey WILD Outdoor Expo, and celebrate gram and gramps with a scenic Grandparents Day train ride.

Jump right into autumn with a visit to an apple orchard, get lost in one of NJ's amazing corn mazes, or head to Camden Children's Garden for its Hefty Harvest and Scary Scarecrows weekend. New Jersey WILD Outdoor Expo – New Egypt
Want to learn how to kayak or pick up some new camping skills? Head to the NJ Wild Outdoor Expo, which offers conservation information, education, and hands-on opportunities to learn a variety of outdoor skills and activities. Try your hand at fishing, hiking, kayaking, camping skills, rock climbing, wildlife watching, and more. FREE  

Open Farm Weekend at Bluebird Farm Alpacas – Peapack
You normally have to make a reservation to visit Bluebird Farm Alpacas, but this weekend the farm is open to all visitors who want to come meet (and maybe even cozy up to) its sweet residents. Guests can visit with, feed, and photograph the alpacas, see live demonstrations, learn about raising and breeding, shop for alpaca products, and more. A container of grain is included in the $6 admission fee.

Atlantic City Seafood Festival – Atlantic City
Relocated to a larger open space in between Showboat Hotel and the former Revel hotel for 2017, this annual AC seafood festival hosts a variety of entertainment for the whole family. Delicious food, live music, and fun competitions are all on the menu. Visit the kids' sand sculpture area, check out the pet costume contest, listen to live music, and more.

Hefty Harvest & Scary Scarecrows — Camden
Get into the autumn spirit at Camden Children's Garden's harvest celebration, featuring games, crafts, and more. Make your own full-sized scarecrow for a small fee, while supplies last.

Corn Maze Grand Opening – Phillipsburg
The Farm in Harmony debuts its first-ever corn maze, a seven-acre maze featuring the POW-MIA flag emblem. Today and Sunday are "Bring Your Hero Day," and military personnel, firefighters, and police officers get in free with a paid child's admission. 

Touch-A-Truck Diggerland – West Berlin
Climb inside police and rescue vehicles at Diggerland's third annual Touch-A-Truck event, held outside the park's main entrance gates. Admission to Diggerland requires a paid ticket. FREE

Teddy Bear Parade – Short Hills
The Cora Hartshorn Arboretum hosts its second annual Teddy Bear Parade, where kids can bring their plush pals for an afternoon of stories, snacks, and a visit to the Bear Hospital. The event wraps up with an educational parade through the grounds, where participants can explore nature in the Arboretum's beautiful woodlands. Registration is required. 

How To Catch a Monster Storytime at Barnes & Noble – Freehold and other NJ locations
Head to Barnes & Noble to hear a tale that reminds us that things aren't always as scary as they seem. Activities will follow storytime. Check your local B&N for details. FREE

Breakaway to Fun with the New Jersey Devils – Chester
The New Jersey Devils will visit Alstede Farms to help celebrate the opening of its new, NJ Devils–themed corn maze. Meet members of the team, and then navigate the twists and turns of this giant, 10-acre maze.

Grandparents Day Excursion Train Ride – Whippany
Make a reservation to ride the rails with Grandma and Grandpa on this 10-mile excursion along the historic Whippanong Trail. 

Drop-In Studio at MAM – Montclair
The popular series is back for fall! Stop by the studio to take part in an activity inspired by one of the works on view, with a MAM studio instructor on hand to offer help and advice.
