Weekday Fun in NJ: MLK Day, Story Times, Nature Hikes
This week kicks off with Martin Luther King, Jr. Day—a day off from school and an opportunity for kids to volunteer their time. You can take part in various community projects as part of the Martin Luther King Day of Service, or skate your way through the day at MLK Day Skate & Play. Plus, it’s a great week for storytime freebies. Bring the little ones for story events, such as Uptown Storytime, Meet the Author: Fred Freda and Spot is Here. Monday, January 16
Scotch Plains Fanwood Martin Luther King Day of Service – Scotch Plains
Kids will experience giving and helping the community through various service activities at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA and surrounding locations. Projects include food drives, designing cards for troops, and creating give-back boxes for Goodwill. FREE
MLK Day Skate & Play – Westville
Spend an active day off at Deptford Skating Center, where the fun includes skating, inflatables, food and drink.

Baby & Me Hike – Rockaway Township
Get fresh air and exercise with baby in tow on a hike at Mount Hope Pond. Pre-registration is required.
Tyke’s Tuesday at ISC – Cherry Hill
Preschoolers are invited for a morning of energy-burning activity at International Sports, Skating & Fun Centre. Skate lessons and rentals, snacks, and the Funzone are included in admission.
Wednesday, January 18
Sports Fun at Golda Och Academy – West Orange
Little ones can get active after school at this mini sports clinic presented by PJ Library and Lady Roadrunners. The fun includes sports, pizza, and cheering on a basketball game. Pre-registration is encouraged. Non-perishable donations are appreciated. FREE
Winter Preschool Nature Classes – Pennington
Bundle up and bring the preschoolers on a nature hike at Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed. Afterward, the fun continues indoors with stories and activities. This week’s theme is Ice-n-Snow. Pre-registration is required.
