Weekday Fun: County Farm Fair, Free Movies, Beach Party

Fun things to do with New Jersey kids this week, July 17-21, 2017

Revel in summertime splendor this week with festive fairs and free movies galore. Fairs and festivals are popping up everywhere, including Cape May’s Carnival on the Lawn, Jersey City’s Newport Beach Party & Concert, and Burlington County Farm Fair.

No need to fork over money for movies this week: There are tons of free showings, including MPAC Summer Film Series, Big Thursday: Summer Nights in Rahway, and Jenkinson’s Movies on the Beach.

Monday, July 17

Jersey Shore:
Carnival on the Lawn at Congress Hall – Cape May
Monday night is carnival night outside Cape May’s Congress Hall. The fun includes games, face painting, balloons, skee ball, a train ride, treats, and more. Admission is free.

Northern NJ:
​Summer Film Series – Morristown
Bring the family to a free, air-conditioned showing of The Secret Life of Pets at Mayo Performing Arts Center. FREE

Tuesday, July 18

Doktor Kaboom! Look Out—Science is Coming! – Toms River
Science and entertainment come together for this amazing performance, complete with mind illusions, a tabletop catapult, a Mr. Wizard homage, and more experimental fun. Performance is held at The Jay and Linda Grunin Center for the Arts, and pre-registration is required. FREE

Northern NJ:
Tiny Tot TuesdaysMorris Township
The little ones will love beach and water play at Sunrise Lake before it opens to the public. Kids 4 and under are free.

Wednesday, July 19

Central NJ:
Summer Maker Space – Trenton
Get the creative juices flowing every Wednesday at New Jersey State Museum. Participants 5 and up will create a different hands-on project each week. FREE

Northern NJ:
Newport Beach Party and Concert – Jersey City
It’s a beach party on the Hudson River at Jersey City’s Newport Green. The festivities include live music and food, with the Manhattan skyline in the backdrop. Bring a picnic blanket. FREE

Burlington County Farm Fair – Springfield Township
Treat the family to an old-fashioned county fair, featuring 4-H exhibits, amusement rides, contests, live music, crafts, and food. Fair runs through Saturday.

Northern NJ:
Big Thursday: Summer Nights in Rahway – Rahway
Invite your pets along to this week’s free movie at Rahway’s City Plaza Hall, featuring a pre-movie pet adoption event. Then cuddle your furry friend for a showing of The Secret Life of Pets. FREE

Friday, July 21

Jersey Shore:
Jenkinson’s Movies on the Beach – Point Pleasant
Kick back in the sand and enjoy The LEGO Batman Movie at the beach in front of Jenkinson’s. FREE

Northern NJ:
Tot Tour at the Morris Museum: Flags – Morristown
Toddlers will learn all about the American flag through stories and gallery activities, then create their own at Morris Museum. Pre-registration is required.
