Pinkster, a Jersey Dutch Celebration of Spring

Join the Bergen County Historical Society as the celebrate Pinkster, a Jersey Dutch Celebration of Spring at Historic New Bridge Landing. Children's activities will be available throughout the day.

The Tricorne Dance Ensemble under the direction of dance mistress Denise Piccino will be dancing around the maypole at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm.

They will also be performing a collection of 18th century dances throughout the day in which the public is invited to join them. Musical accompaniment for the dancers will be provided by Ridley and Anne Enslow on the fiddle and hammered dulcimer.

At 2:30 pm in the Steuben House Deborah Powell, BCHS past president and Museum Collection Chair will be giving a talk on the Jersey Dutch. The society's Needle to Cloth exhibit of BCHS girls' samplers and needlework will also be on display for the final weekend in the Steuben House.

All three Jersey-Dutch sandstone houses are open for tours throughout the day. The Blackhorse Inn will also be open where visitors may purchase refreshments for an additional cost and visit the gift shop. Being featured in the gift shop at this event will be Depression glassware and books on Depression glass.

Apple farmer Alex Everitt will be out by the barn speaking on cider making, Jeresy Lighting, and NJ history. Be sure to check out The Half Black Cat Baskets and the Lost Art Lacers demonstrating basket making and lacemaking. Demonstrations of broom making and blacksmithing will also be on site throughout the afternoon.

In the out-ktichen visitors can see BCHS interpreters making olibollen (Dutch Donuts) and naturally dying eggs.
