Join the Bergen County Historical Society as they host the 249th Anniversary of the Retreat to Victory at Historic New Bridge Landing. Gather around at the New Bridge as Thomas Paine's The American Crisis is read to the American troops.

Then travel back to November 20th, 1776, and witness George Washington and General Greene on horseback as they lead the evacuating American troops across The Bridge that Saved the Nation to escape the invading British army and defend the New Bridge from the King's forces.

Reenactors are on site throughout the day performing military drills and talking about military life in the American Revolution.

All three-18th century Jersey- Dutch sandstone houses, including the state historic 1752 Steuben House will be open for tours throughout the day.

On display in the Steuben House will be new exhibits and Revolutionary War artifacts from the society's extensive collection.

Take a peek at the treasures in the gift shop while you enjoy donuts and hot cider which is available for purchase inside the tavern.

Don't forget to visit the society's authentic Jersey Dutch out-kitchen where interpreters are cooking seasonal 18th century recipes on the open hearth.

Activities for families include tin punching, cartridge making, and a scavenger hunt with a prize.

Free parking is available on site or take the train to the "New Bridge Landing" station on the Pascack Valley Line.

Dogs are permitted on site on a leash but not in the houses.
