This interactive display on a private lawn materializes nightly through Halloween. The family-friendly haunt includes skeletons doing magic tricks and reading minds, cool optical illusions, and a watery musical light show.

Children learn about other countries and what kids are like in those countries at the United Nations Day event at Pretend City. Activities include flag making, dancing, and story time.
Tuesday, Oct. 25
Día de los Muertos Novenario – Downtown Los Angeles
This is the first of nine nights of candlelit Novenario processions on Olvera Street. The traditional, pre-Columbian procession summons memories of deceased loved ones with colorful pageantry and indigenous blessings. Here's our story on this event, which includes parking and other tips.
The Nightmare Before Christmas – Hollywood
How about ringing in the Halloween season with a special 4D screening of the Jack Skellington classic at El Capitan? Screenings include a rare backstage tour of the vintage movie theater. There's also a morning Tiny Tot screening in gentler 2D format.
Wednesday, Oct. 26
All You Can Carry Pumpkin Patch – Santa Monica
For $5, you can take home as many pumpkins as you can carry down a 25-foot pumpkin patch lane; the only rules are no help from friends and no equipment can be used to carry the pumpkins. Costumes are encouraged at the event, which is part of the weekly Downtown Santa Monica Farmers Market.
Irvine Park Railroad Pumpkin Patch – Orange
This week is the last chance to catch the annual event with its pumpkin train, giant hay maze, not-so-spooky haunted house, and other holiday-themed festivities.
Thursday, Oct. 27
Animal Crackers – Hollywood
If there's room in your schedule for one non-Halloween event this week, make it a family outing to a Marx Brothers movie at the Egyptian Theatre. No one is too old or too young to giggle with Groucho.
October at One Colorado – Pasadena
The shopping venue features a Mommy and Me sing-along with Michal Karmi (aka Peanut) and a craft workshop.
Friday, Oct. 28
Movie Under the Guns: Hocus Pocus – San Pedro
The battleship Iowa plays host to a Hocus Pocus Halloween, featuring a family-friendly trick-or-treat event through a portion of the historic battleship, followed by a screening of the 1993 movie Hocus Pocus on the ship’s fantail. Costumes are encouraged, and those 13 and under can trick-or-treat.
Mini Monsters Bash – La Habra
The Children's Museum at La Habra hosts a Halloween bash featuring games, crafts, mini-maze, and a costume parade.
