The Karate Kid in 4K
Wax on, wax off. The Academy Museum screens The Karate Kid in 4K.
About the film: After moving to Reseda in the San Fernando Valley, teen Danny LaRusso becomes the target of a local gang of karate students. He finds an unexpected mentor in his quiet building manager, Mr. Miyagi, a role that garnered a Supporting Actor nomination for Noriyuki “Pat” Morita. The Karate Kid was wildly popular upon its release; it was one of the highest grossing films of 1984 and became an iconic film of the early 1980s that spawned numerous sequels, a remake, and a TV series that reunited the cast of the original film more than thirty years later.
The Karate Kid stars Ralph Macchio, Noriyuki “Pat” Morita, Elisabeth Shue, and William Zabka. This 1984 film has a runtime of 126 minutes. It is rated PG and is recommended for ages 11 and up.
