National Trails Day
National Trail Day recognizes the benefits that trails provide for recreation and exposure to nature. This trail leads to Camarillo Grove Park, where the day is being celebrated with a variety of activities like guided hikes, Chumash presentations, and trail work.
The community is asked to come out to help maintain the beautiful hiking trail system at this natural park for all to enjoy.
To attend any portion of the events on this day, guests must pre-register online at National Trails Day - Pleasant Valley Recreation & Park District
8am: Trail Work
Participants should bring shovels, rakes, and gloves, and wear clothes they don't mind getting dirty in.
11am: Guided Hike (prompt start)
Participants explore and learn about the nature all around us on this guided hike, led by a local expert on birds, who offers insight into the birds that inhabit and travel our area. Hikers should come dressed for the outdoors with comfortable walking shoes, sun protection and a water bottle.
12 noon: Chumash Presentation (prompt start)
Guests can enjoy a free educational presentation titled "kayǝwǝš" (which translates as "calleguas", meaning "the head"): on place, language and culture. a talk with tšumaš (Chumash) scholar, Matthew Vestuto.
