Drop-In Workshops for Teens: Create Your Own Vertical Cinema
It's all about how you look at things: July's Drop-In Workshop for Teens is inspired by the Shifting Perspectives: Vertical Cinema exhibition.
The vertical format of filmmaking has been around since the 1890s; however, over time, the standard in cinema has shifted to the horizontal format we are used to viewing. Shifting Perspectives: Vertical Cinema embraces the spirit of experimentation in cinema and recognizes how the devices we use every day (smartphones, tablets, etc.) capture images and video in the vertical format.
In this workshop, teens can use their own devices or devices available in the Shirley Temple Education Studio to film around the museum and edit what they’ve captured to create their own vertical cinematics.
Event meets on Friday, July 19 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, in the Shirley Temple Education Studio on the museum’s Lower Level. Workshops are designed for teens ages 14 and up. Snacks are provided.
All workshops are free with museum admission and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Museum admission is free for youth ages 17 and under.
The Education team invites teens to join museum educators on the third Friday of every month to be inspired by the museum’s exhibitions and screenings, explore the museum, hang out, and get creative.
