Mother's Day Weekend Fun for NJ Kids: Hooray for May, High Tea, Fairies

Happy Mother's Day! Treat yourself (and the family) to wine, art, tea and more this weekend.

Happy Mother’s Day, NJ moms! Beyond dining at the best brunch spots in northern NJ or the Jersey Shore, this weekend is teeming with fun activities for the entire family.

Round up your crew for a celebratory outing at Terhune Orchards for its Mother's Day Wine Trail Weekend, wander among the beautiful flowers at the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum, or make a special craft during Hooray for May! at the Center for Contemporary Art.

Moms also receive free amusement rides on Sunday at the Camden Children’s Garden and Morey’s Piers, or a free ice cream cone at Alstede Farms. You can get pampered at Parteaz’s spa tea party, or head to Monmouth Park Racetrack to try your luck while the kids play.

Prefer to keep it low-key (and low-stress) this weekend? Hit up your local playground so the kids can tire themselves out, or visit our Spring Fun Guide to find an activity to cross off your bucket list.

For even more fun events, check out our Events Calendar and May GoList. And don't forget! Help us pick New Jersey's BESTIES in all businesses categories, from pediatricians to the best play spaces. When you vote, you'll be entered to win one of two terrific prizes: a luxurious NYC getaway including a suite credit from Suiteness and a custom itinerary designed by Mommy Poppins herself, Anna Fader, or a two night stay for four at the Great Wolf Lodge in the Pocono Mountains. Vote today!

All Weekend

Mother’s Day Wine Trail Weekend at Terhune Orchards – Princeton

Beautiful Butterflies, Birds & Cinco de Mayo Festival – Camden
There's a lot to celebrate at Camden Children's Garden this weekend. Kids can mark the return of the monarch butterflies from Mexico with a (belated) Cinco de Mayo celebration, and on Sunday, moms ride free on the carousel, train, and other amusement rides.

Saturday

Crafts at the Warren County Library – Hackettstown
Bring your budding fashion designer (ages 8 and up) to the Northeast Branch to transform his or her own black T-shirt into a star-studded sky with bleach and fabric paint. Little ones ages 3–8 can make a galaxy sensory craft using plastic water bottles, baby oil, food coloring, and glitter.

Hooray for May! – Bedminster
The Center for Contemporary Art hosts a day of free creative projects across its three art studios and outdoor pavilion, where kids can make crafts to keep or gift on Mother’s Day. The first 50 kids will receive a swag bag with a limited-edition T-shirt.

Children's Festival – Smithville
Enjoy everything Historic Smithville has to offer at this festival just for kids. In addition to the carousel, paddle boats, and train rides, there will also be face painting, a puppet show, live animals, giant inflatables, and a princess meet-and-greet with Moana, Elsa, and more.

NJ Audubon's Fairy Gardens – Bernardsville
Travel to the enchanting world of fairies at the Scherman-Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary. Kids will transform natural materials into a broken clay pot garden, the perfect home for their fairy friends.

Sunday

Mother’s Day Hike – Short Hills
Gear up for Mother’s Day brunch or burn off breakfast calories as you take a guided tour through the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum to learn about the woodland area’s wildflowers.

Mommy & Me High Tea – East Hanover
Sip tea and enjoy traditional foods such as sandwiches, scones, and clotted cream at Parteaz. Come early with your little one dressed in costume to dine with a princess, or opt for the afternoon spa day session, where you and your mini-me will make bath bombs and enjoy facials, glitter tattoos, and manicures.
