The coming three-day weekend is a great time to be in Westchester and the Hudson Valley! Our weekend picks include both indoor and outdoor activities ranging from celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr., to communing with nature or catching a show. 

Reinforce the meaning of MLK Day by investing time at conscience-raising event. The whole family can volunteer at Martin Luther King Day of Service. Promising performances include Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could, but for FREE admission, Bubblemania is a pop-ular choice. Embrace the winter at Awosting Falls Snowshoe Outing or think warm thoughts (and get a jumpstart on summer planning) at Westchester Family’s Camp Fair.

The East Coast National Baseball Card Show: Winter Extravaganza - White Plains

Martin Luther King Day of Service – Multiple Locations
The weekend leading up to MLK Day is designated for volunteering (“a day ON, not off”). Volunteer opportunities abound for families, including fun activities like baking and crafting. Some projects can even be done at home. FREE

Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could - Mamaroneck

Annual Puppet Festival - Nyack
In addition to enjoying a puppet show, kids also get to make their own puppet—for a potential future as the next Muppeteer, perhaps?

Take advantage of this FREE opportunity to view special exhibitions and performances, as well as participate in interactive family art workshops.

Bubblemania - Scarsdale
“Pop” on over to this entertaining event, featuring comedy, music and, of course, bubbles. FREE, but tickets are required.

Candlelight Tour – New City
Visit the historic 1832 Jacob Blauvelt farmhouse, illuminated with candlelight and lanterns, and experience Dutch American holiday traditions of the 1830s, including music and song and seasonal refreshments.

MLK Jr. Day Painting Party with Art Partay - Larchmont
Paint away while supporting a good cause on this day of no school.

Awosting Falls Snowshoe Outing - Kerhonkson
Older kids and adults are invited to don their best snowshoes for a scenic trek with visits to a towering rock formation, a stream and 65-foot falls.

Beyond Westchester

Here’s an opportunity you don’t find every day: Spend the day learning how to ice fish at DEEP CARE Family Ice Fishing Workshop. All fishing tackle and course materials are provided for FREE!

Disney on Ice Presents "Let's Celebrate!" will perform a four-day stint in Connecticut, featuring appearances by Ariel, Rapunzel, Cinderella, Belle, Anna and Elsa and more.

Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr Family Day at the Bruce Museum with African and African-American stories and music, performed by a seasoned storyteller and jazz vocalist.
