A Journey Through Black History
The "Journey Through Black History" event, organized for Black History Month, is a profound exploration of significant periods in African-American history. Through meditative exercises, Dr. Jeremiah Pearcey, a cognitive psychologist and military veteran, focuses on experiencing history, rather than just being told the facts.
The event promises to immerse participants in four pivotal eras: the racial revolution of the 1800s, the oppressive Jim Crow and Black Codes era, the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, and the recent equality movements amidst a pandemic. The “Journey Through Black History” uses guided meditation to live through the historical challenges and triumphs of African-Americans, providing a unique empathetic insight into their struggles and resilience. The event is not just an educational endeavor but also an emotional and spiritual voyage into the heart of African-American history. The goal is to help people understand the mindset of slaves, the mindset of people at the time, and how these converged to create the society we know today within the United States.
Doors Open at 11:30am on February 24, 2024. Drinks will be available prior to the event start. Snacks will be served upon conclusion of the event. A baked goods display will have items available for purchase, as well.
The event will be kid friendly; however, discussions around slavery, the authentic stories of slaves, and details of Black history may be uncomfortable and emotional. Please discuss these aspects with your child(ren) prior to the event.
