Weekend Fun for Philly Kids: Nature, Performances, Amusement Parks April 29-30

Bees buzzing, lawn mowers humming, birds singing, and the voices of children playing outside have become familiar sounds throughout Philadelphia. Now that spring is in full bloom, Philly parents can be sure our event calendar is set to deliver some springtime fun.

Head outdoors to play with slime, learn about DNA, and visit live animals at the Science Carnival. Go for a bird walk in the morning or plan to stargaze at night. Dance the day away with rockin' preschool tunes or expose kids to a new variety of music. Splurge with a visit to either Dutch Wonderland or Sesame Place since both parks celebrate opening for the season this weekend.

With so many events from which to select, be sure to use our filters to narrow down the options by age and location. Now, continue reading for our top picks.

Weekend Fun for Boston Kids: Baseball, Shadow Theater, and a Sound Sculpture; April 29-30

Like most Bostonians, one thing I look forward to in the spring (along with the warm weather, of course) is baseball (go Sox!). This weekend, the Museum of Science is hosting a brand-new event with our beloved team that will include all kinds of baseball-related STEM activities, a pitching station, face painting, and even photos with Wally the Green Monster. While you're hanging out on that side of the river, head to Harvard Square for the Harvard ArtsFirst Festival or enjoy live music, shadow theater, and free admission to the Peabody Museum.

Speaking of art, the MFA is celebrating spring with their annual Art in Bloom family event; the ICA is having a playdate; and Spring ArtWeek is happening all over the city, including this interactive public art display that kids won't want to miss.

New York City kids hit the streets for fun events this weekend, namely the Street Games 2017 extravaganza in East Harlem, where they can enjoy some hopefully arriving mild weather. Downtown fun includes an all-weekend 50th Anniversary Celebration for South Street Seaport.

More kid-friendly outdoor fun lands over in Brooklyn, with the two-day Sakura Matsuri/Cherry Blossom Festival, two-day Brooklyn Folk Festival, and Saturday's Park Slope Fifth Avenue Family Festival.
