Review: Spring-a-Ding Ding! It's Circus Arts for Younger Kids

If the idea of heading to a full-fledged circus seems overwhelming for younger kids, especially the preschool and pre-K crowd, we might have found the perfect in-between show: Spring-a-Ding DING!

The one-hour performance playing in downtown NYC at the 14Y is filled with lively music, storytelling, acrobatics, dancing, contortions, and more—all performed with a younger audience in mind (Read: They'll be too entranced to wriggle out of their seat or your lap) from the small but mighty circus-arts company Cirque-tacular.

And if they're loving the theater experience, check out the best Broadway shows for kids and families for ages 4 and up.

Everything You Need to Know About Visiting Walden Pond With Kids

Walden Pond was made famous by Henry David Thoreau, who lived at the site from 1845-1847 and wrote the book Walden based on his experience. Today, Walden is known locally for being a beautiful, pristine recreation area. It’s one of our favorite places to visit year-round, but we especially love to go in the summer. There’s so much to do with kids at Walden and it provides a great alternative to heading to the beach on a hot day. Here’s our advice on how to make the most of your visit.

Memorial Day Weekend for LA Kids: Greeks, Scots, Music, and Fireworks

First and foremost, Memorial Day is about the members of the armed forces who gave their lives in our nation’s service. Their sacrifice is unimaginable, our debt to them beyond measure. To those lost, and to those who serve our nation and all it stands for, we salute you.

The weekend is not all somber reflection: Memorial Day also means a long weekend, and the unofficial start of summer. Festival is the word of the day: throughout the Southland folks gather to enjoy yummies and wild art, and to celebrate different cultures (including Greek, Scottish, and Topangan). Discovery Cube LA opens a new exhibit, and Discovery Cube OC flies in with two of its own.

And, of course, Memorial Day weekend closes with tributes to our fallen heroes. Ceremonies are being held at the Nixon Presidential Library, in Burbank and Canoga Park, and at Woodlawn and Forest Lawn Cemeteries.

Memorial Day Weekend Fun for Philly Kids: Horses, History, & Parades May 27-29

Traditionally, Philly families may spend this unofficial start of summer weekend by taking a trip to the shore, swimming in a lake, eating at a backyard cookout, or watching a parade honoring those who fought for this country. While all of those are amazing ways to spend the weekend, if you are looking for something new to add to your Memorial Day festivities, there are some 'must-do' activities in our event calendar.

Watch the horses race at the Devon Horse Show Grounds. Learn about American history with a visit to Historic Philadelphia; be sure to stop by a Once Upon a Nation Storytelling Bench, listen to a recitation of the Declaration of Independence, and see a colonial-inspired puppet show. Or take a moment to appreciate America's beautiful outdoors with a bird walk at Newlin Grist Mill, a boat trip along the Schuylkill River at Bartram's Gardens or a creek critter search at Norristown Farm Park and savor this land we call home. Check out the new fountain display at Longwood Gardens' Summer of Spectacle as it opens this weekend. With all of these options, it is sure to be a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

Also, now's the time to get your tickets to our Summer Brain Quest Kickoff Party next weekend. There'll be pony rides, face painting, games and activities. Plus, a Sesame Place giveaway. Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance. Get your tix now!

Weekend Fun for Boston Kids: Happy Memorial Day; May 27-29

The official kick-off-to-summer weekend has arrived, and we have plenty of suggestions for how to spend time together as a family while also honoring our country's fallen heroes. Visit the garden of flags to pay respects, and enjoy a tribute concert and fireworks. Military members receive free admission to Edaville all weekend long. There are two more sheep and wool festivals to wrap up the spring season, some outdoor SaturPLAY, sailing on the harbor, and even a wizard market. On Monday, head to the JFK Library for a very special and historic birthday celebration.

Additionally, there are three events especially for autism/special needs families happening at the Children's Museum of Easton, and the Boston Children's Museum (on Saturday and Monday, respectively).

Memorial Day Weekend Fun: Parades, Carnivals, and Flamingos, May 27-29

At long last we have reached the very precipice of summer: Memorial Day weekend! I have dug the beach chairs out of the garage, taken the grill out for a test run, and I can't wait to plant my feet in the sand and perhaps even in the Sound. There's all kinds of non-beachy fun to be had this weekend too from fairs and festivals to animal encounters, special concerts, and more.

Whatever your plans, the significance of Memorial Day should not be forgotten. If you're looking for an educational way to honor the men and women who died in service to our nation, our Event Calendar features many kid-friendly parades and ceremonies, including the Revolutionary War Encampment in Wethersfield, the Decoration Day event at Mystic Seaport, and the U.S. Coast Guard Band concert in New London.  To keep up with everything going on in CT, be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

Wishing you the very best Memorial Day weekend!
