Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Parlors Long Island Kids Will Love

Is there ever a bad time to enjoy ice cream? Of course, with summer upon us, it’s the perfect time to take the family out for a scoop, a sundae, or a shake—and all of these definitely will taste better when made with homemade ice cream.

So we’ve rounded up some of Long Island’s best ice cream parlors that everyone is sure to love. These destinations create their yummy flavors from scratch and have a nostalgic feel that make the experience extra special.

Wondrous, Wild Waterfalls Waiting for You in Connecticut

Waterfalls are amazing creations of nature that astound even the hardiest hiker and outdoor lover. The water pounding on the rocks, the splash of the spray, and the shallow wading pools leave the kids with lasting memories. Connecticut is lucky to be home to hundreds of waterfalls; many of them are accessible with just short walks and a little effort for all ages. Of course, please exercise caution at all of these sites as rocks are slippery when wet! If you are looking for more outdoor adventures, go hiking at one of these Hartford area spots and check out our list of ropes courses in Connecticut!

This Weekend's Fun for LA Kids: Superhero Day, Sandcastle Building, and Impossible Science

Summer’s not even close to over, and here’s how I know: a whole bunch of summery event series are just now getting started. So it can’t be the end if it’s the beginning (unless that’s some kind of circle of life metaphor). Big World Fun, the multicultural music and dance series for kids at the Ford, starts now. Movies on the Green, Warner Center's free weekly movie series, starts now. Several summer events just started last week (Sound in Focus, CCPT Children's Theatre in the Park, Orange County Fair). Others have yet to make their seasonal debut: We have to wait for Santa Monica’s Jazz on the Lawn, the second half of Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival (Two Gentlemen of Verona), the Getty’s Garden Concerts for Kids (did they really get Dan Zanes this year?!), and whatever Shakespearean nonsense the Actor’s Gang comes up with in Culver City (it will be hard to top last year’s Pokemon Romeo & Juliet!)

Also new this weekend: Impossible Science LIVE at Discovery Cube OC, All Star Comedy Festival featuring shorts from Hollywood's Golden Age, Comic Con 2017 (a tad far but worth the trip), and summery festivals in Santa Monica, Norwalk, and Cypress. There's a Back to School party at Toys R Us and a Back to School Health Fair in Pacoima... School?! No. Just no.

It is summer, burning bright like the stars in the sky, and its end is nowhere in sight. For a couple of weeks at least.

Weekend Fun for Philly Kids: Water Fun, Festivals, Theater Shows July 22-23

Lots of summertime fun awaits Philly families this weekend! Whether you're visiting the Jersey Shore, enjoying sweet treats at a local festival, or taking in some theatre, our event calendar is exploding with excitement.

Learn about the properties of water and how its energy is harnessed for power at demonstrations held at Hagley Museum. Get soaked in a melted snowstorm by the fire company at Byers' Choice's Christmas in July event. Splash around at one of the sprinkler or splash pads throughout the Delaware Valley, check out a pop-up public pool, or splurge with a visit to a water theme park. After drying off, visit a tasty festival such as the Sweet Corn Festival at Oasis Family Farm, Sweet Corn and Blackberry Festival at Linvilla Orchards, or the Honey Festival at The Harriton House. Wrap up the weekend by seeing a theatrical performance such as Grease or Fiddler on the Roof.

With so many choices, everyone in the family can share in all the fun summer 2017 has to offer.

Weekend Fun for Boston Kids: Sand Sculpture, Figment, and the Return of Old Ironsides; July 22-23

As they say, everything old is new again, from cars to comics and collectibles, but especially for our very own Old Ironsides, returning after a two year restoration and looking as good as new. Need more summer goodness? Head to the biggest sand sculpture festival on the East Coast, find Waldo to wish him a happy birthday, and explore the some participatory art and culture on the Greenway.

Weekend Fun: Come Out and Play, Muppets, Back to the Beach

Hey, New York City kids! Ready for movies, music, and theater? This weekend, The Jim Henson Exhibition, with loads of Muppet movies and artifacts, launches in Queens, while the new That Chemistry Show brings to Manhattan what That Physical Show did, but maybe messier. Erin Lee and the Up Past Bedtime Band hit Bryant Park, and Fort Greene Park gets jazzy.

That's not all. Staten Island's biggest outdoor festival of the summer, Back to the Beach, runs all weekend, and on Saturday Governors Island hosts the time-travel fun of Come Out and Play Family Day. Weekend Fun for Westchester Kids: County Fair, Kids' Night, Family Day

A bounty of fun continues this weekend for Westchester and Hudson Valley families, with a mix of live performances, carnival action and hands-on arts exploration.

The Orange County Fair, first held in 1840, brings thrills and chills of various sorts—from carnival fun to demolition derbies. The Upright Citizens Brigade returns for an encore performance of zany humor at Arts in the Amphitheater: Comedy Night

In addition to the big-band entertainment that Kid's Night with Quintette 7 & Instrument Petting Zoo provides, kids also have an opportunity to get hands-on with the instruments. If your future star is looking for performance experience (or to combat stage fright), sign them up for Kids' Open Mic Night, and all ages are encouraged to think like an artist at Family Day.
