Weekend Fun for LI Kids: Arbor Day, Kids Fest, Touch a Truck

Bid farewell to April this weekend with a family fun festival.

The Arbor Day Family Festival at Planting Fields Arboretum or the Spring Festival at The Common Ground in Sayville are all on the docket this weekend. Enjoy a fiesta at CMEE's Feria, a celebration of Latin culture. Stop by the weekend-long Kids Fest in Merrick. Rock out with Darlene Graham and friends at a family-friendly concert. Or ooh and ahh over the massive vehicles at Touch a Truck events in East Meadow and Middle Island.

12 Indulgent Brunch Spots for Mother's Day in Houston

Whether you're looking for a spot to take your own mother (or grandmother, or any other mom figure in your life you'd like to celebrate), or you would like to forward this list along to the significant other as a mildly subtle "hint hint," we have 12 ideas for a drool-worthy Mother's Day brunch. Many of these spots, which are listed in no particular order, offer lunch and dinner if brunch isn't your thing and range from elegant to casual chic.

Weekend Fun: Cherry Blossoms, Seaport Festival, Street Games

New York City kids hit the streets for fun events this weekend, namely the Street Games 2017 extravaganza in East Harlem, where they can enjoy some hopefully arriving mild weather. Downtown fun includes an all-weekend 50th Anniversary Celebration for South Street Seaport.

More kid-friendly outdoor fun lands over in Brooklyn, with the two-day Sakura Matsuri/Cherry Blossom Festival, two-day Brooklyn Folk Festival, and Saturday's Park Slope Fifth Avenue Family Festival. We hear that Swale, the floating food forest, is making a surprise opening at Pier 6 in Brooklyn this weekend, too! (It was scheduled to open earlier this month in Manhattan but delayed.)

Not to be beat, Sunday offers sheep shearing on Staten Island, a poetry-rich spring festival at the Morgan Library in Manhattan, and arbor festivals in Queens and in the Bronx

Too much? Keep it simple with our guide to miniature golf spots. As always, you have our April GoList (farewell to it!) as well as our Spring Fun Guide and our Event Calendar to keep your kids busy when those May flowers return on our rainy April investment.

For those who love FREE: At Comic Con, aficionados of comics and manga can indulge their pleasure by participating in assorted graphics-related fun, while at Family Fun Day kids can visit assorted stations and participate in fun workshops like circus techniques.

Would you believe that’s not all? Earth Day fun also continues this weekend, too. Read on for all this and more, but definitely don’t stop there. We've got oodles more in our Event Calendar

A Visit to Amish Country: 13 Fun Things To Do with Kids in Lancaster

A trip to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, offers a surprising number of family activities, from farm visits and more country fun to train rides and cool museums. Whether you love that rural vibe or are just looking for an alternative to the standard beach-type of family weekend getaway, I can assure you that Pennsylvania Dutch Country and Amish Country make for a sweet destination with kids in tow. It's not just fields, pastures, and cows!

Read on for the top family sights, including The Science Factory, Strasburg Railroad, Dutch Wonderland, and even a train-themed hotel.

Trash and Recycling Events: Sanitation Yard Open Houses for Kids Who Love Garbage Trucks

Vroom Vroom! Does the sound of the garbage truck coming down the street send your kids running to watch? Would they love to sit in the trucks and maybe even take a ride? Do they know all the different types of trucks and haulers? Earth Day inaugurates the season of city yard open houses and recycling fairs, and—if you haven't heard—these events register high on the LA insider scale. More than 6,000 residents attend an open house in an average year.

20 Mother's Day Brunch Restaurants in Los Angeles and Orange County

Mother's Day, and the brunching is easy—and when we say easy, we mean the culinary version of a chick flick. This is not a day for the Denny's Lumberjack Slam (not that there's anything wrong with that); Mother's Day brunch begs sprigs of rosemary, ocean views, and maybe a harp plucked with a rose. Or, if that's not your thing, Fillmore & Western Railway is happy to Throw Mama on the Train. The key is Mom's Choice—all day!

Read on for some of our favorite restaurants that offer a pretty darn fabulous Mother's Day brunch.
