15 Best Things To Do with Kids in Spring Lake, New Jersey

Summer fun at the Jersey shore doesn't always involve boardwalk rides and jam-packed beaches. For a quieter shore experience, head to the quaint seaside town of Spring Lake, where tree-lined streets and graceful Victorian inns welcome families.

You won't find mini-golf or arcades in Spring Lake, or any large hotels, either. But you will find leafy lanes, a picturesque lake, restored boardwalk, charming downtown, and a gorgeous beach.

Swimming Lakes Near NYC for a Family Dip

New Yorkers are lucky to be surrounded by water: When we get the urge to take a dip on a hot summer day, there are plenty of family-friendly beaches a short drive or subway ride from NYC. But for families with little kids, the ocean can be intimidating, with its choppy waves and miles of hot sand without an inch of shade.

Sure, there’s always the local pool, but if you’re itching to get the kids out of the city to enjoy a swim in the great outdoors, what better place than one of our area’s beautiful, placid, freshwater swimming lakes? We’ve rounded up the best lake swimming spots within a two-hour drive from the city.

Father's Day Weekend Fun for Philly Kids: FatherFest, Airplane Day, Flag Fest June 15-16

Philly families are sure to notice that this weekend's events calendar is filled with fun focused on Dad. After all, he helps Philly kids out in so many ways such as assisting with homework, teaching how to throw a curve ball, and driving the kiddos to extracurricular activities. Is he adventuresome? Musical? Outdoorsy? History Buff? Economical? No matter what kind of Dad you've got, we've got some fun in store for you.

Impress Dad with a helicopter ride at the American Helicopter Museum during FatherFest or watch the planes take off and land during Fort Mifflin's Airplane Day. Those who like music can listen to the sweet sounds of the Kimmel Center organ or rock out to a little Grateful Dead at Ardmore Music Hall. Dads who like nature can check out the piggies at Ross Mill Farm, participate in a nature scavenger hunt at Norristown Farm Park, or camp out at Riverbend Environmental Education Center. Be sure to visit Historic Philadelphia and take part in its Flag Fest festivities including Stars and Stripes Saturday. And, don't miss free fun such as Public Archaeology Day at Newlin Grist Mill and Father's Day Read-a-Thon at the Community Education Center. Plus, Dad gets in free at Diggerland and the Academy of Natural Sciences. See, Dad, we are saving you money!

Mommy Poppins Philadelphia wishes all of the Philly guys out there a great Father's Day weekend.

Father's Day Weekend for LA Kids: Pasadena Chalk, Bowl Opening, Rodeo Drive

Settle down, padre; we get it. It’s Father's Day. This weekend it’s all about you. Dad’s choice from sunup to sundown: make way for baseball (with or without a game), BBQ and buffets, heroes on the half shell, and Indiana Jones. Or, if you prefer, kittens and unicorns. As long as you’re happy, we’re happy. Yep, whatever it takes, no expense spared...

Psst: Moms and kids! Did you know there's a ton of cool stuff going on this weekend that you can take Dad to for free? Luxury cars on Rodeo Drive, no-cost concerts, movies by moonlight, festivals, and celebrations. You can even make him a variety of from-the-heart gifts. All without dipping into the trust fund. There are also things you can do that cost money, if you're into that. (And we have a feeling some of it Dad will be very into!)

Whichever way you go, it's sure to be the bestest weekend ever, if you get to spend it together. Hey, look! Next week it's officially summer!
