Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden - History Week Camps

Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden’s one- to four-day camps allow children to travel back in time and explore 19th-century New York City with historic crafts and games, old-fashioned cooking, scavenger hunts, and stories of 19th-century people. Some of the people your child will meet:

  • Mr. Rikers, the music store owner, who plays 19th-century music and instruments. Children can create their own playable harps.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Stuart, travelers from Scotland, who visit New York City and the Mount Vernon Hotel. Help them see New York with a city directory and work with others to make your own mini 1829 guide book.
  • J. C. Hart, owner of the hotel; learn what planets Mr. Hart knew about when he built his solar system model, then build one yourself.
  • Join the children of the proprietor as they learn from hotel cook Flora Miller. Cook some special historic dishes.
