  • Family Build: Themed stations introduce the whole family to architecture basics. Take part in a design challenge and leave with a take-home project. Ages 3+.
  • LEGO Build: Learn about an iconic Chicago building and solve a design challenge related to it using LEGO. Buildings change each month.

Fashion Technology & Design Summer Camp

ThunderLily Fashion Tech offers summer camps where young fashionistas and aspiring engineers fuse creativity with innovation as they explore the exciting world of wearable technology.

Students learn the actual techniques that are needed to be fashion designers and then use their creativity to solve real world dilemmas, working through iterative design cycles from concept to final prototype. In these summer courses, students delve into the four pillars of wearable tech—design, engineering, construction, and sustainability—learning conceptual design and how to refine their ideas. Students gain hands-on experience with pattern-drafting, sewing, and construction; learn how to program Arduinos; and explore the fundamentals of electrical engineering, prototyping, and choosing fabrics.

For their capstone project, students create a unique piece of wearable technology that improves the world around us.

ARAS Pioneer Teens Art Program

At the Archive for Research in Archetypal Symbolism (ARAS) Pioneer Teens Art Program, high school students ages 14-17 can:

  • Discover art, symbols, and myths from all over the world
  • Create their own artwork inspired by universal symbols
  • Explore museums and galleries and meet working artists.

The Institute for American Indian Studies' Summer Camp

The Institute for American Indian Studies is offering six weeks of full-day summer camp for children ages 5-12, focusing on the life-ways and lessons of Native Peoples. Join experienced educators and camp staff on a journey through one or several themes: Digging Detectives, Eating with the Seasons, Crafty Creations, Woodland Survival, Not So Primitive Technology, and Forest and River Ecology. Each week while hiking in the woods, playing games, and making friends, campers will work together to complete a group project.
