Fun Things to Do for Connecticut Kids and Families: Festival, Shows, Nature and Play Area May 21-22

Yes, We've had our share of rain drops this week; however, rumor has it that the sun is suppose to make an appearance over the weekend. That's good for the Beardsley Zoo because this weekend is the grand opening of their new "Wild Open Space Play Area".  The Robin Hood Springtime Festival finishes up this weekend so check it out before they close up shop. A few more outdoor activities include a night hike for kids along with smore's by a camp fire as well as an outdoor screening of Kung Fu Panda for the entire family.

For indoor fun both Pippi Longstocking and Goldie Locks are on stage. All class clowns are invited to attend a Night of Improv at Kent Memorial Library and story time and book sales are taking place at the libraries.

To see a complete listing of events for this weekend check out the Mommy Poppins Event Calendar.

It's Spring and along with the flowers and new leaves on the trees ticks are lurking in the woods and tall grasses. There's plenty a parent can do to protect their children from this disease. Lyme disease was first discovered in Lyme, CT in the 70's.  It's preventable if recommendations are followed and can also be treated successfully with a few weeks of antibiotics. However, if  left untreated serious illness can occur. Most cases of Lyme disease develop during the spring or summer months, when people are more likely to be outside walking in the woods or in tall grass.

To prevent ticks from attaching to you or your kids:
