Indulgent Mother's Day Brunches in Connecticut

What's not to love about brunch? A magical marriage of all the best things served up with a mimosa and a slice of cantaloupe, brunch is arguably the most indulgent meal right out of the gate. Maybe that's why it has become something of a tradition to spoil the ladies who work tirelessly making sure everyone is cared for by taking them out to these panoplies of decadence on Mother's Day. We are extra spoiled in Connecticut because of our epic food scene so finding a brunch fit for a queen isn't hard at all. So pick a spot, make a reservation, gussy up the fam and treat mom! She deserves it.

The village of Mystic in Connecticut is a charming little getaway for New York City families. About two hours by car from Midtown Manhattan, Mystic offers lots places for fun with the kids: a fabulous aquarium, the largest maritime museum in the country, and a beautiful outdoor retreat for hiking, birding, and exploring nature—an ideal family excursion no matter if you stay for the day or the entire weekend. Mystic is especially fun during Memorial Day weekend when the Rotary Club hosts its annual “Lobster Days” celebration with children’s lobster-themed storytelling, cooking and fishing demonstrations, and of course lobster dinner.

Celebrating Memorial Day in Eastern Connecticut

It's the unofficial start of summer so beaches are beckoning, carnivals are calling, and outdoor parks are just begging to be explored. However, Memorial Day is also the day in which we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, and there are many parades, tributes, and ceremonies held in their honor across Eastern Connecticut. Enjoy our fair state and usher in the warmer months and brighter days ahead.

Blueberry Picking in Eastern Connecticut

Few things taste more like summer than fruit and vegetables fresh from the garden. But since we cannot all grow gardens - or large ones that accommodate a variety of produce - local farms are terrific destinations. Walking in the sunshine, enjoying the smell of grass, bobbing along on tractor rides: the whole experience of picking your own food on the farm is an essential activity of the warmer months and a great way to teach children the process used to grow healthy foods. Hailed as a super food, blueberries are delicious and so versatile, and these little fruits are for the pickin' in Eastern Connecticut! For more berry picking check out our Pick Your Own post.
