Reading to your children from an early age is a great way to nurture a love for books, not to mention support brain development. Many libraries provide free story times for you and your little ones to enjoy. Here is a roundup of story times in the Hartford County area.
The Plainville Public Library has drop-in story times held for children between the ages of one and five. There is a fall session and, after the holidays, a winter/spring session. Children must be the appropriate age for the class they are attending. The story time programs are held in both the daytime and evening, but when there is no school in Plainville story times are canceled. There are short stories, finger-plays, and music to introduce your child to fun at the library.

The West Hartford Public Library has a variety of reading programs available for children at the Noah Webster and both branch libraries. They offer story time programs for newborns to age 5, as well as programs that incorporate music, science, and social interaction with other children. Participants will develop a love of learning to last a lifetime! Registration is required for some programs but not all. The Avon Public library provides story time for children, as well as programs that include arts and crafts, music, and yoga. Most programs require registering in advance. Check their site for current programs or you can call 860-673-9712 ext. 211. Programs are open to residents and non-residents.

They also have monthly events that in the past have included nature talks with real wild animals, musical guests, and free movies.
