Indoor Play Places for Big Kids in Hartford County

11/10/16 - By Pam Hegner

As much as we love sledding, skiing, or playing in the snow with our kids, sometimes we just need a day off from slushy, mushy adventures, soggy mittens, and snow pants. Mommy Poppins has researched some great places to have some fun inside during those long winter months, especially with children ages 10 and up. Also check out our Indoor Play Guide for younger kids in Hartford County.

Here are some other suggestions for indoor activities and great places to have winter birthday parties in Hartford County

Bounce Town - South Windsor and Canton
Kids 12 and under will love these well-kept facilities that house oversized inflatables and a 16-foot rock wall (at the South Windsor location; call for climbing times). No outside food allowed, but they do sell a wide variety of drinks and snacks or can order a pizza for you. They have open play promotions such as buy six visits for the price of four, and a punch card for your eighth visit free. Closed on Tuesdays. This is a great place for a play date or a party.

Launch Trampoline Park - Hartford
Some of you might remember Patriots Pro-Bowl cornerback Ty Law. He is co-owner of this franchise, 10,000 square-feet of connected trampolines and walls to jump off. You can play dodge ball, basketball, jump into a giant foam pit or just free jump. There is a special area for kids under 42 inches, as it can be overwhelming for the little ones.  It is a great way to burn some energy, but everyone must sign a waiver, as trampolines can pose hazards and cause injury if not careful. If you get tired of jumping there are several arcade games and a cafe. They have big, open birthday party rooms and cater to group or corporate outings.

Soarin' Indoors Aerial Adventure Center - Manchester
This unique 14,000 square-foot venue is made up of obstacle courses, zip lines, wobbly bridges, trapezes, and other physical challenges. There is a low course (2.5 feet off the ground) and a high course (12 feet off the ground) so if you aren't the most adventurous, there is still plenty to enjoy. You are secured in a harness, so even though you sign a waiver, it is considered safe. It is designated for ages 6-7 and up; or you must be able to reach a height of at least five feet while standing flat on the floor. Could be just the right fit for someone wanting to try something new! Closed on Tuesday.

Mandell JCC Valley Sports & Community Center - Canton
This is a very impressive 28,000 square-foot indoor sports complex that houses many classes for various ages, camps, after school options, drop-in family play for grades K-12, parties, leagues, Jewish programming, and more.

Nomads Adventure-Quest - South Windsor
Nomads is all about indoor family fun and they offer several different ways to blow off some cabin fever. Kids will enjoy indoor, blacklight mini golf, indoor mini bowling, and billiards.  They can also try their hand at laser tag or at a bumper car! For some kids who have been "climbing the walls" at home, they can literally climb the walls at Nomads' ancient ruins climbing wall.

Flight Trampoline Park - New Britain
Come and enjoy one of Flight's 31 trampolines. There is multiple thousands of square feet of entertainment space at Flight and a sectioned off area for jumpers who are 6 and under. Friday through Saturday, Flight offers "Club Flight" were teens jump in the dark with lasers! Buy your tickets online.

Stone Age Rock Gym - Manchester
A great alternative to jumping on trampolines is indoor rock climbing. Stone Age Rock Gym offers Monday through Sunday climbing hours until 10pm. Beginner climbers can participate in an orientation and get started on the walls right away. High School nights is on Friday.

Hall's Archery - Manchester
Does your teen love Hunger Games?  Would she/he like to try archery?  Teens age 13 and older can walk-in to Hall's and get a "mini lesson" and get started shooting right away! Halls is open until 9 p.m. on weeknights and 5 p.m. on weekends.

Tactical Airsoft - Windsor
Players ages 10 to 17 are encouraged to play airsoft in this 24,000 square foot location.  This huge indoor play-space is filled with realistic terrain and obstacles to maneuver through. This is a pricier indoor fun time for kids- see website for details. Equipment can be rented on site. too.
