How Obé's At-Home Fitness App Actually Helped Me Start Working Out

After welcoming my second baby, I wouldn't say I was feeling my best... A tough pregnancy had left me seriously out of shape, lifting my newborn and toddler was taking a major toll on my back, and let's just say the baby weight wasn't exactly "falling off." At 4-months-old, my little one was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy, which forced me to clean up my diet (no dairy or soy — yikes!), and it finally started to show on the scale. But when the ban was lifted 6 months later, cheese plates and pints of ice cream seemed like the obvious way to celebrate. It was right around then that I heard from obé, an at-home workout app and fitness program, and I figured it had to be a sign, right? I've never been much of a gym-goer, but their apartment-friendly signature 28-minute workouts required no equipment and looked manageable. I put down the mint chocolate chip and the heating pad and created an account.

Read on to find out how the obé fitness app actually got me working out, and why it seems like it was made for busy parents everywhere. Mommy Poppins readers can also snag their first month for just $1 with the code below.

Juneau With Kids: An Insider's Guide to Juneau, Alaska

For many, Juneau may just be a stop on their Alaskan cruise or a layover on their way to other spots in Alaska. For Southeast Alaskans, like my family, Juneau is the “big city," which means that there's more than just a touristy cruise port area to explore in Juneau. There are plenty of things to do in Juneau that will check items off an Alaskan adventure bucket list, as well as more local experiences that give families a taste of real-life in Alaska.

These are my favorite things to do in Juneau, including local spots and top Juneau tours. And if you're heading to Haines during your Alaskan vacation, check out my list of things to do in Haines, Alaska

Things To Do in Chicago this Weekend with Kids: Hungry Caterpillar, Fall Fests

Wait, it's just now officially fall? All those fall festivals every weekend in September were just a warm-up round? Well, good thing those apple-picking and corn-mazing muscles are warmed up, because this weekend delivers the harvest season fun in a big way. Fall Fest kicks off this weekend at Lincoln Park Zoo, fall colors explode (literally) at Bolingbrook's fireworks-and-foliage Fall Fest celebration, and fall festivals swing into action in Downers Grove and Oak Park. But holding onto a last breath of summer is encouraged at the Indian Summer Festival in Woodridge.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar opens at the Chicago Children's Theater this weekend with 75 oversize puppets acting out the classic tale. Meanwhile, family-friendly music performances run all weekend at the world-class Hyde Park Jazz Festival.

The big Oktoberfest party at St. Alphonsus hosts a special Kinderfest both days, or if gyoza is more your taste than oompah, head to the World Dumpling Fest at Navy Pier. Treat the family pooch to a fun day of dog-friendly activities and fun at Barkapalooza, or bring your favorite pint-sized Jedi to Star Wars Reads Day.

And those are just the highlights! For more ideas, see our roundup below or check out our ever-expanding event calendar.

Richmond, VA with Kids: 50 Fun Things to Do in Richmond

Richmond’s place in U.S. history is distinct, and many of the best things to do in Richmond, VA, include a stroll past monuments or an icon central to America's origins. One of the oldest cities in the nation, Richmond was the capital city of the Colony of Virginia. It was the site of Patrick Henry’s “Give me liberty, or give me death” speech in 1775, and during the American Civil War, Richmond was the capital of the Confederacy.

Today, Richmond is known as the River City, and more colloquially as RVA, and there are plenty of modern attractions and things to do for kids and families. While the deep history is evident in monuments, battlefield sites, and the architecture, Richmond is also home to an expansive parks system, 550 aces of river shoreline, and a growing small business economy, including delicious Richmond restaurants,  breweries, fun festivals, children's museums and science centers, as well as a nearby theme park, Kings Dominion.

To help you navigate this incredible Southern city, we’ve put together a list of the 50 best things to do in Richmond with kids, as well as a guide to the area.
