Southwest suburban families can celebrate Independence Day with at McCarthy Park starting with the Stars and Stripes 5k at 8 a.m. Batting cages and mini golf will be available from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and concessions, and music from Libido Funk Circus run throughout the evening. Or families who aren't ready to go out yet can pick up a 4th of July picnic kit from the park district to enjoy crafts, noisemakers, and glow-in-the-dark items, and games from their own backyard. Fireworks in McCarthy Park will start at 9:15 p.m.
